OK, I'm confused. There is BOTH an ASA states and an ASA region 9 qualifier for the ASA USA Nationals? I thought that I had this all figured out and that what people referred to as ASA "states" was really Region 9, with Cincy Metro having its own "regional" qualifier. But I must have been wrong.
There is an ASA State, ASA Regional (where only Region 9 teams can qualify) and usually Ohio hosts one USA/ASA qualifier as well where any team from any region can qualify. For last year in the 16u age group, States were in Massillon, Regionals were in Ashland, and the ASA/USA National Qualifier was in Pickerington.
Yes - the state awards a berth to the ASA/USA nationals. Last year I believe was the first year in awhile that it only awared one berth as previous years usually awarded two. "States" are also only for Region 9 teams.
