My dd played in this two years and had a great experience. Facilities are top notch, netting over spectator area is a plus. She met and made a lot of friends. The format is up to 20 players on the roster, play 8 innings, continuous batting order. Each player ends up with about 2 at-bats for each game played. It is a showcase format, so no tournament "winner." Each division plays the other 5 one time each. A good experience for parent and daughter, well worth the trip IMO.

maybe it's because she is a cather ? they kept 3 catchers which is obviously more than other position players. And the team as a whole didn't hit well , scored 1 , 2 and ?? not many the last game. So not many rep's thru the lineup. her HS coach is coaching , I would think he would look out for her. -- she is far more experienced at CF (than catching) and from the reports i got it sounded like we needed OF help badly. he could have played her there, anyway she got 3 AB's . SE is getting pounded 15-1 in the 4th (by the East I think) . At tryouts I ask where a few very established players were at and one coach told me a quote from one player was " I'm not going up there and getting pounded on again for 5 games" For whatever reason the SE doesn't get their best players to attend tryouts . Am I right the SE is the only district to hold a 1 day tryout ? I hear other districts have 100's of kids tryout . The SE had about 20 pitchers/catchers and 30 position players. The entire region needs to do a better job of getting the word out and promoting this event. much better. ok off the soapbox MD

Also, regarding other posts above, if your HS coach doesn't let you know about these tryouts, then blame your HS coach and not the system. We knew last year but my girls had summer school and could not attend the tryouts. This year they were able to go along with the other girls mentioned. The biggest problem I see with all star teams is someone always gets their feelings hurt.

So where DO you find out about this if your coach is not communicating? I can make sure to look out for it next year. Is underclassmen everything but Seniors?

just know that about 1 week or less after the state tourney ends there should be a tryout --I got my info from our assit coach but I'd guess the coachs website (google ohio fastpitch coachs association) would have the times/dates. The communication in our area was lacking. MD yes everyone but graduating sr's is welcome

My dd heard about tryouts from one of her teammates who got the info from her travel coach! Our coach said nothing about it to any of the girls. DD decided not to try out at the last minute. But if she did need a recommendation from hs school coach well it's a good thing she didn't bother then. :/

There are supposed to be two players for each postion and three each catchers and pitchers. Position players play four innings each game and pitchers/catchers split 3-3-2 each game with that rotating. Batting order is continous picking up the next game where it left off the previous game.

Central District announced tryouts and had registration forms available at the All-State/All-District voting meeting so most coaches should have had the information. When I mentioned it to our players I got luke warm reception and only one took a form.

Check and see if your HS coach is aware of there being such a team. If they are not aware they need to be made aware. If your coach is aware and not nominating any players to go, then check with your AD. Your coach is not doing the program any good by not nominating deserving players.

What a great experience. NW and SW tied at 2-2 the first day, and then SW pretty much rolled through the rest of the state's districts.
Some very good players, and I saw three very dominating pitchers. Most impressive pitcher I saw was Montana Wear from Felicty Franklin HS in the SW district. She is just dominating. Susan Knight and Erin Seiler for the NW district were the next most impressive pitchers IMO.
SW's team was very dominating, and all three pitchers were excellent. Defensively it was a very sound team and the hitting was pretty decent too.

It was an outstanding overall experience for my daughter, and the competition for the most part was very good. Hope she makes it next year along with her sister too.

NW District also went 4-0-1. The girls had fun and made lots of new friends. The comment most heard as the girls were leaving was "facebook me!" :lmao:

don't shoot me but here is my report from the dd-- it inhaled sharply . The SE after a 2-1 game in the opener got beat on badly in the next 4 games including a 20-1 pounding in which the other team was delayed stealing with a 14 or 15-1 lead. (don't ask me how a team of district all stars could allow this ) . The big picture is the SE doesn't get their best players to try out . I'm new to this so I don't know why. So the ones that do go play get killed, they report to their friends that it was no fun getting run ruled and pretty much embarrassed every game.
Somehow that cycle needs to broken , next year I plan on trying to encourage the best players to actually tryout , and to hold a tryout during the week when travel ballers can actually attend. (they held it on a sunday ) . The reputation of our district is bad enough w/o going up to pick town and getting hammered in this event every summer. There is no good excuse for not being able to field a competitive team from the SE district. MD

This event was great...good players who made some stellar plays and most of the routine ones. I know that the NW District tryouts were scored at every position and selections to the team were based on the scoring. It appears as though the SW District selections were also done objectively, so perhaps that had something to do with the results? I also noticed that there were no players from any of the teams that played in the HS title games for any division, which I thought was odd. Lastly, I would agree with the earlier assessment on the best pitchers (Wear, Knight, Seiler) over the games. Not surprising given that all of them have verballed D-1 schools (all three are 2012 grads).

Do you know where they're going? My kid played on the SW with Montana Wear and said she was a beast.

Montana is going to Wright State. She should make them pretty good the moment she steps on campus.

Seiler is going to University of Akron
Knight is going to Cleveland State University

and my understanding was that Wear was going to Kent State.

Another 2012 pitcher at the tournament, but unable to pitch due to an injury, was Dillow (SE district) who has verballed to Bowling Green State University.
