2013 ASA shoes (cleats) rule question / Pitcher's glove question

Hello,

I see in the new 2013 ASA rule book (Rule 3, Section 6-7) they have a rule for metal cleats.
Wanted to get a better understanding of the ruel.

The rule states "Shoes with round metal spikes are illegal. Shoes with detachable cleats that screw on are not permitted however, shoes with detachable cleats that screw INTO the shoe are permitted."
I also see that the metal cleats cannot extend more then 3/4 of an inch from the sole or heel of the shoe.

May be a dumb question but are they talking about the cleats that are rounded on the corners?
And what is the difference of detachable cleats?

Will umpires be checking cleats as they do with bats and helmets?

One question on pitchers gloves. My DD who had a glove with a neon yellow/green emblem had to black out the color. If a pitcher is using a glove that is illegal should it be pointed out to the umpires? (Rule 3, Section 3).

In advance thanks for any advice/answers on these issue's.

I know the round, golf type spikes are not permitted. Also the track type that have threaded ends where the spike itself screws into the holes in the shoe are not permitted. The screw in kinds that are legal are the ones that come with the little screw driver tool and an actual screw holds the cleat in place. Basically you can't wear golf/track shoes with little ice pick type spikes....they have to be like football/baseball type cleats.

My dd, along with many other pitchers I've seen, has the black Mizuno glove with the neon green emblem on the wrist strap. We carry along a black Sharpie to color it in incase there is ever a problem but so far noone has ever complained. I wouldn't ever complain about the pitchers glove unless the entire glove was the color of the ball. It doesn't distract our batters at all and seems like an excuse for not being able to hit the pitcher. JMHO :)

The detachable regulation is because of the ones that had/have threaded posts affixed to the sole and the cleats screwed onto them like a nut. They're dangerous because the cleats come off and leave the metal post exposed.

My DD had to cover up glove. The next tourny same umpire came up and said it was O.K. for the glove because it was neon green not the optic yellow of the ball.

That's what I've always told my dd. If you want to get technical, it's neon green not optic yellow and that isn't the same color. ;)

My daughter had an umpire tell her she had to color in the optic green on her Mizuno mitt before he umpired her team again or she would not be allowed to wear it and she is a catcher, wearing a catchers mitt. That is mostly black as you can see in the picture. But I have seen teams where there whole uniform is that color and nothing is said.

My dd is a catcher with the mizuno MVP black glove w/ the neon emblem..... I've had a field umpire tell her it was illegal,? then 10 seconds later the plate umpire told her it was fine? Maybe the it depends on the umps..... maybe the umps don't know the rule? I don't know it myself, but it is what it is......
