ACL Injuries /Recovery in Softball

Does anyone have an ACL injury/recovery in softball? What to do or what not to do?

Search Hitter's posts. He has references to medical stuff on this injury. And make sure that you get a goods sports medicine doc. There are some good references for these in past threads, so you should probably search for those as well. Best of luck.

I tore my ACL when I was younger and continued to play for a few years with the tear before if fully came apart. It is something you can play with (after the initial swelling goes down), but it won't be as stable and you will have constant pain and discomfort, that I just got use to. Brace it well, some pain meds before, ice after use, but eventually it will get worse, so get it fixed. New surgeries have them back up and going in weeks and playing competitive in 6-12 months if not sooner.

dd had a complete tear and had surgery within 3 weeks after tear. She had a hamstring graph. She just wants the best therapy and prevention method possible to prevent future injuries and to ensure full recovery.

"The Santa Monica ACL Prevention Project has developed the PEP Program in order to implement a strategic training program to decrease the number of ACL injuries incurred by female ****** players. Since the implementation of Title IX legislation in 1972 allowing equal opportunity for girls and women to participate in sports, there has been a significant increase in the number of females participating in competitive sports. However, the total number of injuries has also increased. Studies have shown that a female ****** player's risk of sustaining an ACL injury is two to eight times greater than her male counterpart. Subsequent studies have shown that adding neuromuscular and proprioceptive exercises to the training regimen can reduce the number of ACL injuries by two to four fold."

This usually gets little press compared to social events etc until it actually happens to you!

Go to their web site and there is a lot of information and the numbers show those that use this type of program have reduced ACL injuries as much as 41% in basketball and Soczzer related ACL injuries.

The main focus is on the hamstring and balance combined with how they jump and land.

Give what ever you find to the basketball coaches especially, as we lost 5 girls to that sport this year!

The glutes do fire for the male upon landing.

The glutes do not fire upon landing for the female however it can be taught!

In my opinion this is the reason weight shift for throwing and hitting is so misunderstood when it comes to the female verses the male.

In my opinion, put in the same amount of research as you do figuring out which bat to buy and consider how much your daughters ACL is worth verses the bat. :D
