my daughter is moving up next year and I've heard about showcase teams that play in tournaments that college coaches scout. Are there any teams like that in lake county Ohio ? If not where are they how do you tryout ?

Agree with Blue Ice as I shared in my PM ... but for the benefit of others who are new to this, I am sure many teams/coaches/organizations will claim to be and it all depends on how you define "showcase". There are many organizations that in my opinion are worth the drive if your goal is to have your daughter play on a true showcase team. True showcase teams have the resume and name recognition to get into the top tourneys in the state and throughout the region. Many teams call themselves showcase teams but if they haven't gotten into GAPSS, Stingrays, Pennsbury, etc. in the past, then just understand that it will be a tough road for them to get into in the future as well. They may still play a very competitive schedule and it may be one that better suits some people's daughter's abilities/goals and the family budget (time and expense), and that's OK.

I agree with JWB, but would like to add another thought.
I would think the litmus test for a Showcase Team is one where Coaches and recruiters will simply come to watch the team because they know the high level of talent that will be there as opposed to coming to watch one particular standout or stud that they have heard about.

Oh by the way, before someone piles on Lake County, the comments above hold true for most of the counties in Ohio ... I believe there are 88 counties in Ohio, and probably 75-80 of them don't have true showcase organizations/teams by the way we've defined them ... if you want your daughter to play on a true showcase team, you should expect to do some driving!

there are good organizations in lake county. and there is talent to make a showcase team or two at 16u. but there are way to many teams at 14 or 16u in some organizations. if a girl knows what hand to put the glove on , you made the team. also most parents at 14,16u don't want to travel much farther than the end of their driveway.

First time I agree with you... By the way your DD has a nasty change up. But calling it three times in a row probably wasn't wise.

I have to agree with Dennis as well.......There is no doubt in my mind a showcase team can be made of lake county girls only.....no doubt. But as some have tried, if you only grab 1 or 2 or even 3 of the best players, you cant compete with a team of 9 that has above average talent.....

Agree 100%! Lake County is so watered down with organizations, there will never be a team like this. That, and the commitment level just doesn't seem to be there. People look at me like I have horns coming out of my head when they find out I drive 2.5 hours for a full days practice for my 10U DD in the off season. They just don't get it. Or should I say, WANT it! Luckily, my DD WANTS it.
