The M C Madness are considering hosting an ASA 10u and 12u tournament in mid April. Is anyone interested in playing as early as April 22nd? We would be looking at having the main site in the North Ridgeville area with other possible sites in nearby communities should weather hit.
All thoughts would be appreciated.

I have two concerns with doing a tournament this early - first, would obviously be the weather- would you have an indoor facility available or an alternative date in place? The second would be middle school ball- some 12u's are eligible and may be playing middle school ball in April and cannot play on their travel teams at the same time.

If there is enough interest we could certainly expand to 14u as well. Any other 14's out there interested?

We could potentially have an indoor option should we need to play semi final and final games on Sunday. Playing early in the year would allow us to have options at multiple outdoor sites however. The weather can be dicey and we would obviously invest in Diamond Dry as well.
I fully understand that there are Middle School players out there. That is one of the big reasons we are trying to test the waters.

Mark,

This past spring was pretty dry, drier than normal that is for sure. I think it would be a good idea and would probably be well received if the weather was comparable to last year, if not you would need to have an indoor alternative. Good Luck either way!

We played that same weekend last year and the weather was lousy. I won't rehash the whole ordeal but we're kicking around maybe going to Kentucky and playing a tourney in April this year in hopes of having a better shot at good weather plus something different.

Well, come back to Goshen for the April 23rd-24th weekend.

We are having an 8u with 10u, 11u and 12u "A" and "B" division. I haven't listed it yet in the OFC Tournaments.

The Kentucky teams ( Louisville and Lexington ) will be here as this is the weekend that Global - Kentucky left open for me so I could try to draw Ohio and Kentucky teams in here for an event.

Goshen in the spring is the place to be !!!!

I should know by tomorrow if Cincinnati is going to be the location for the Global World Series for 11u teams. That would go off on the July 1st - July 3rd weekend.

And YOU are sanctioned already with Global as well for entering the Uniform Blowout. I paid the sanctioning for the teams so they wouldn't have that added expense in getting in the event.

We're already playing an indoor league this winter. Nothing beats being outside. We went to Middletown last year around April 12th for a 12 team friendly and it was absolutely beautiful weatherwise.

Isn't Global for rec teams or "B" teams? I could be mistaken. We would be running this tournament as an "A" tournament if we end up with enough interest.

No Global, unlike other associations, run "A" Gold, "B" Silver and Rec "Bronze" in each age group and specializing in 8u, 10u, 11u and 12u age divisions only in Ohio.

We open in April with a Rec/Travel event.. of course separately... and hopefully in two different parts of Ohio.. if not three. They would be Goshen, Dover and Sylvania at Pacestetter Park( waiting on them).

What Global and I hope to do for the younger age groups.. is to provided them with a venue made just for them.

They are tired of getting the bottom tier of umpires when tournaments are 10u, 12u, 14u 16u and 18u events.

By concentrating on 8u -10u - 11u - 12u ... I think we can give them more fields to be able to get more teams in their age groups in 2011. By having two classifications.. we can match teams up with what they want.... to be able to play competition equal to themselves.

I see "B" teams getting tired of playing "A" events ..... and "A" teams tired of playing "B' teams....

So.... to each their own with Global !!!!!

Also, our rules are very simple and more girls get the opportunity to play which makes coaches happy and parents as well.

You can bat 9 PLUS two Additional hitters and have one(1) Base Burner ( who can run anytime and for anyone in the line-up and can run for as many people as she wants in any one inning)

So can the additional hitters..... but if they pinch run in and their bat comes up and they are on base... their position as a batter is an out.

So, you have to watch how you use the AH as a runner... LOL

What 8u, 10u, 11u or 12u coach would not want the opportunity to play more girls in games at tournaments.

We hear the argument of how some coaches want to play many girls in pool play.

Global events does that !!!!

We hear how, when beginning elimination round, and how some coaches go with their best ( Global you can play just 9 if you want... But, if you a thinking coach like this... play your best 9 and a base burner would work well....

Also, free substitution... as long as a substitution goes into the same batting order. Doesn't matter how many times.

Got a girl that is a good hitter and not best defensive? AND you got another girl who is good defensively and not a hitter ? .. Problem solved .... just put them both in the same batting order spot and interchange them all you want.. all game long.

Thus, more girls playing on Sunday... is the bottom line.

Madness I think so. Quakerman is a pro.

Learned it from Coop !!!!!

Warren, I have been trying to talk the Madness group into taking the Global State Tournament on June 10th-12th ( a triple points event on the Circuit of Champions as well )... so I don't have to come north and run one on their weekend they have scheduled now.

Trying my best to stay away from them :D It's going to be either Dover/Strasburg or Ashland ( ASA backyard..LOL) or Sylvania.

Dang, I'm getting as good as Coop. Explained it and also promoted the State event on June 10th - 12th as well . ;)

Just don't know what city yet....LOL
