Found this on another site and thought I would post for thought provoking dialog. Obviously nothing decided yet on these, but it looks like they will be talked about in November at the ASA National meeting.

"ASA PROPOSED CHANGES

As previously reported in SPY, ASA has formed an ad hoc Gold coaches committee which has made several proposed changes in ASA code and playing rules. Following the ASA Board of Directors meeting last week, ASA has written back to the coaches, informing them of amendments which will be proposed to the ASA Council at its November meeting.

One change would result in Gold pool play being for exposure only, rather than seeding the elimination bracket. A second change: the four top-placing teams at Gold nationals being placed in separate quads in the next year?s Gold nationals if they qualify. A third change would allow metal cleats for players in ASA 16U, 18A and Gold. The Junior Olympic 18 and Under Gold Fast Pitch National Championship will be rotated to Oklahoma City every third year and in off years will be placed in other parts of the country by the Executive Director. The fifth change would be: Girls? ASA Gold 18-Under Fast Pitch. This National Championship Final shall be scheduled to start on the Friday prior to the first Saturday in August and not be scheduled for more than 7 days. This event will not have an opening ceremonies event.

Not least, a sixth proposed change would eliminate college players."

Most of the top Gold teams got tired of ASA not listening to them and keeping them in Oklahoma City for 8 days to play maybe four games. They have started the Premier nationals and a bunch of top teams are committed to play in it. I think it's the week after Gold Nationals (not sure about that). It took the OC Batbusters to actually put this tournament together to get ASA to finally listen to complaints from all the top Gold teams.

And it's about time they allow metal cleats at 16-U and above.

Any word on the 16U pitching distance being moved to 43 feet

Joe couldn't agree more on the 16U cleats. We had practice at your old school this weekend and every girl turning first slipped on the wet surface. This was the first thing we noticed different in high school playing with metal on a wet infield.

Since metal cleats are allowed in high school, I would think that ASA should just bite the bullet and allow them from 14U up.

All the questions about pitching distances, metal cleats and rule changes will be answered next month. That is when the ASA national convention takes place, November 7-13 in Reno, Nevada.

Any rule changes have to go through several committees. First, any proposed rule change is submitted to the Rules Committee. Then, a vote is taken to determine which proposed changes will be considered for adoption.

Only when a proposal survives that initial round of review is it put to a final vote by the entire body.

About four weeks from today we'll know for sure what changes are in store for the 2010 season. Until then, nothing's definite and any possible changes are pure speculation!
