what is the path of the back elbow when hitting. I thought i read on here a couple of years ago that the back elbow drops into the slot (in front of your body)
in watching baseball tonight last night they we talking about jamming the back elbow into the rib cage to start the swing. I see a lot of your girls who jam the elbow into the rib cage which causes them to drop their hands, arc the hips and upper cut.

any thoughts would be appreciated

Jamming the elbow in the ribs is like taking hands to the ball or squishing the bug. Alot of that info has out lived its time. The back elbow drops into the slot and passes the body. Jamming the ribs will create a bat head drop when at lag... not very efficent

This is one of the differences in the male to female body.

Females narrower rounded shoulders and wider hips and a larger chest cavity.

Males wider shoulders and narrower hips.

To get my hitters to understand it and see it, feel it and fix it, I have them pull on a rope while I hold the other end. Both elbows working as a unit. With the lead elbow up and the back elbow down or slotted, they pull on the rope. I have them start close to the ribs and then simply say clear the ribs and chest and they will move the elbow away naturally and the pull on the rope will be much stronger.

Tim and I have used a home made whip-hit to demo this also. Both elbows have to work as a unit as you are not really pushing or pulling in my opinion. However doing a static demo helps get the point across or at least it has in my opinion.

The two that just offered advice, they wrote the book. The whip-hit is a wonderful tool.

Not entirely accurate hes so old he put it in glyphs on a tablet with a stone hammer and chisel. I doing my best Larry the cable guy impersonation translated it to paper.

Larry the cable guys brother, Tim Duncan, has been a student and brother and has shown through his daughter and many students and working with Crystl at clinics understands the swing we teach. You can count on him to produce results if your daughter is willing to listen and work on her own.

Tim understands the ball on a rope and who showed him how to make it.;&

Great advice here, and a worthwhile way to demonstrate that to hitters.

I'd also like to emphasize that in many cases, when trying to concentrate on the role of the back elbow, don't ignore that of the front. If the front elbow drops, the back elbow can't drive forward, and the result is usually rolling the wrists in the contact zone. The people at RVP put it in terms such that the back elbow works like skipping a stone on a lake. Same relative motion.

Scooter I agree. When explaining this too my girls I find using visual aids really helps so they can see it, feel it and fix it.

Sometimes we may not stress the order of the swing or sequence. I try to be very basic in the explanation of the hips turn the spine and the spine turns the shoulders. Many do really not understand the female is very upper body dominant and that using the legs is a must which is why we teach throwing first. As they lower the back elbow the front lifts and the shoulders are turning and that really helps them to connect the process or sequence that is taking place in my opinion.
