I think when a pitcher is chewing gum and is chomping on it, it is very distracting to the hitter and is totally "Bush"....how could a coach let their pitchers chew gum??.....:)
HAHAHAHA..... now that's funny as hell!

Bat waggling may affect a younger pitcher but an experienced 16U/18U pitcher will just bear down. One of our pitchers will change the pitch to an inside screw ball if a batter does this in the middle of her pitch. She forces them to do a defensive bunt just to protect themselves or perhaps hit a pop-up bunt. She views it as a free pitch and a chance to regain the inside. Waggle a bat on this pitcher, crowd the plate and you'll get an inside pitch up on your hands resulting in a poor bunt, a called strike or a swinging twisting bunt-strike. None of which is an advantage to the batter.

Every action by has a reaction, who gains an advantage? Bush or not it is part of the game and if your pitcher can't deal with it then the advantage goes to the batter until she learns how.

I kept track this weekend.

I saw 5 bat wags, all with 3-0 counts..... 3 walks and 2 strikes on the next pitch.........at 14U. I do not like it because I think the pitchers relaxes and tends to throw a strike.......but otherwise it seems harmless enough.

This has got to be the lamest topic on OFC. There used to such good topics. We need a good Ringer thread.

Well I read the whole thread and I don't even know what it is about. "Bat Waggle?" Can I get a definition so I can then make the appropriate smart a$$ comment. Are they pointing their bat at the pitcher or wiggle-wagging on a 3-0 pitch? What is this waggle you all refer to too?

Just so you know, the above is sarcasm because this is a lame thread. Just don't put yourself in a 3-0 count to begin with. Otherwise, turn on your big Kentucky wagon boom box, fire up LMFAO's Sexy and I Know It and wiggle wiggle wiggle your heart out.

Square up as for a bunt and then "waggle" the bat by moving one hand higher, one lower and continuing that movement before the pitcher has even started her motion.

Update: Darn you Ringer, I didn't realize there was "more" to your post after all those blank spaces. You got me this time. (But just for the record, wagglers tend to use this even on the first pitch).

Yep..... officially the lamest thread ever. But thanks for the tip.... if so many find it annoying I'll have my DD do it next time she's asked to bunt. :)

That I find it annoying doesn't mean that our pitchers produce sub-par pitches when it is shown to them. Maybe you are the coach for your DD's team, but if you aren't, you better clear what you tell your DD with her coaches. I know a few (one quite intimately) who would be pretty steamed if a player went up there with the waggle approach without clearing it with the coach, especially if the instruction to bunt is for a sacrifice. Waggling might affect the pitcher's ability to throw a strike (though as I said, it usually makes an effective target for the pitcher), but waggling sure doesn't help a batter to put down the sacrifice on a pitch that is a strike.

Was just a joke CGS..... I should have noted the sarcasm. I'm just baffled that there's a multi-page thread on "bat waggling".

Ok that is two "gotcha's" against me in just one thread. I'm just decompressing from three days of highly competitive ball. I'll go hide under that rock now.
