Has anyone else seen this? I think it's one of the worst sportsmanship and cheating tatics I've ever seen. team was mad cause we were winning and parent in the dougout was snapping camera at my batters every pitch. I know she wasn't taking pictures of my girls and now had about 40 pics of catcher. I asked the umpire to make her stop cause my girls said they couldn't see the ball with the flash. umpire would not do anything.

Umpire could have done something...

If this was a parent, and not authorized team personel, then by rule they cannot be in the dugout. So, the first easy step would be to remove the parent from the dugout.

If this person was acting as a coach or team personel, then by rule they cannot be using electronic or photographic equipment during the game.

And if all else fails...the rule book allows the umpire to ask any team member or game participant to refrain from any act that he judges is infringing upon the game.

we had something close to this. The other team (a player) was taking pics of all their batters. The camera was flashing (not sure why-it was bright outside) It was completely blinding our catcher. We were beating them and saddly I could tell that it was deliberate as they were laughing everytime. I told my girls that it wasn't deliberate-but that I would talk to the ump (don't want them to think that girls would actually do this). Between innings we asked the ump about it and he just calmly told them to remove the flash. The player that was doing it was upset and said that our catcher should get sunglasses.

Sad that it was allowed by coaches and parents of these girls. Spent more time figuring how to cheat then practicing the game evidentially. They lost all their games.

At my DD's first ever night game, (back in the day when 10u rarely got a true night game), I was taking pictures during warm up and the ump came over and told me not to take any pictures during the game because he might think it's lightning and call the game. There wasn't even a chance of rain in the area, but I think he was politely trying to make his point that he didn't want any flashes going off during the game.

IMO, flash should not be used during any sporting event. If nothing else, it's distracting.

Actually at the Stingrays tourney, DD was the photographer for the event and one ump asked her to stop using the flash... Funny thing was she told him she wasn't. It was the red eye light before the shutter snaps. She just used tape over it to keep it from showing the rest of the night.

but as a tactic by a team... Not cool...

How about having kids point laser lights at your kids while they are playing?
