Certified? (or Certifiable?)

So I apparently am just full of questions today...

How many coaches in FP are "certified" coaches? (I know most coaches are certifiable, but that's a totally different thing ;))
What's the most popular or respected certification to obtain?
Should parents and players expect their coaches to be certified?

Thoughts, comments?

At least 1 coach needs to be ACE Certified and for coaches that coach middle/high school need to obtain a pupil activity permit (I hold both). IMHO, The only 1 thing that a parent needs to be concerned with is that a coach has passed a background check (to help ensure they are not a bad influence on your child)

tclarkson, Hi! Saw you guys this weekend at the Shootout and wanted to drop over to chat, but things were a little crazy in our camp. I appreciate and respect your comment; you and the coaches of ICE are class acts. I have to say though I've seen some bad influence from coaches this year that I don't think the background check would have turned up...;&

Certifications such as ACE, although a good intention, are a waste of time and money!!! Now CPR, Sports Med, Concussion certification...anything along that line are great and should be required, but the only thing that makes a "Certified" coach...is experience, a proven track record of success, along with ethics and integrity. No piece of paper can match that.

Yup. All a "piece of paper" means is that you paid some organization some money in order to get "credentials". Doctors are certified, and there's plenty of lousy ones out there. Same with mechanics, teachers, etc...

50% of doctors finished in the bottom half of their class.

Don't know about the commenters, but I wasn't hinting at the 'Static' controversy...actually I missed that thread, heard it was a good one though. I appreciate everyone's comments!

The most informative certification I have taken to date happens to be free. The concussion certification actually teaches you a little something. And that's coming from an ACE Level 3 certified parent :lmao: (former coach)

If you ever have to take the NFHS test you would be considered both certified and certifiable. Some good stuff but man is that thing long. Glad you only have to take it once.

Thank you and appreciate the comment, would have been nice to chat! Very true....immaturity and no class seem to avoid any type of background.
