If my daughter is only playing school ball, what are the chances of getting a scholarship?

Lower, but not impossible. My oldest DD plays for an NAIA school and had very little select experience. She got a nice academic scholarship and we pestered the college coach for a tryout. The tryout went exceptionally well and she got money to play ball. It can be done, but you have got to actively pursue the coach because chances are they *will not* see her a school games.

Agreed.

Local CC and JR colleges are pretty wide open. For that matter D3 is going to take many many players. It is not until you get to D2 and D1 that the coaches get a bit more focused. The lower levels know they are piecing it together year to year. And honest many D2 programs do a ton of fund raising and such.

Definitely much lower ... there are many factors ... it's all about being seen, and the best place to be seen is in high level travel ball. Very few college coaches can make it to high school games since the colleges are playing at the same time of year. If she is very talented and makes all state, and/or attends some showcase camps like Queen of Diamonds, then it certainly is possible.

That's a really loaded question!!!! Is your daughter working with a reputable hitting/pitching coach and practicing daily? Does she have game?.... and do you have video of it? Are you writing to the coaches and sending them your game schedule with an invite? Do you go to their camps and talk to the coaches? While there are advantages to playing travel it is really not that great unless you are playing with the right organization. Picking up with a local travel team really does not help you get scholarship money except maybe getting your daughter some extra games to be seen in during peak scouting season. That being said, if you are doing all of the above and play with a premiere travel organization who gets you to the right showcases your daughter now is seen by a whole lot more schools. That certainly is going to increase the odds of an offer.

Look behind you
I would say that it would be nearly impossible for D1. This link will show no high schools.

I would surely recommend that if this is her goal to get a scholarship that you need to find a travel team. Browse around this forum and you will find that there are plenty of teams to choose from at all levels along with a bunch of good tournaments to get looked at right here in Ohio!

I would also say very low. I do not know the percentage's but at the D1 level I would say close to zero! But there are exceptions to the rule. Your chances would increase as you go to D2,& NAIA, and I did not mention D3 because there are no athletic scholarships there. I'm always willing to help any girl and would be willing to give you some ideas and way's you may increase your chances and exposure.

I agree low but not impossible. We have a girl being looked at by a DI school, the coach saw her at a high school game.

Very unlikely… Even CC, NAIA are looking for talent to give money too. They cannot see your DD play HS but they can see what they can find during the summer travel season.
She can play college ball and not play summer travel. We had three from our 2013 class that only played HS ball that are playing in college. They did not get any aid but are playing at the next level. She needs to contact schools attend camps etc. If she is a special player coaches will notice but you have to be where they can see her.

Good luck with your search and do not pass on DIII, While they cannot give scholarships per say they do give awards. Mine received almost 14k her freshman and sophomore years for grades, community service and a couple that I don’t even know how she got after she agreed to play golf too.

In a way, it's too bad because some of the most exciting and most stressful games I have seen are high school games, and it can really bring out a players true character. These girls go to classes together, share the same locker space, practice a lot more than travel teams, and have things like school pride, past history, rivalries that one might see in college (obviously at a much higher level)

Keep in mind that only 2% of all girls that want to play college softball get ANY softball scholarship money. 200 girls out of 10,000 to put it into perspective. This came straight from Kent States Karen Linder at a KSU softball camp. GPA is also a huge factor into that 2% as well.
