Changing Organizations

Thinking of changing DD travel team...Been with this org. for a few years now...No problems just looking to switch it up some. Does anyone have any suggestions on a nice transition....She was offered a spot on a team that is fully funded, which is very nice and the coach is a multi HS state winner in KY...Just looking for some advice. :-/

If there's no problem with your current organization, why would you switch now? Just wondering what your motives are for looking for a new organization. What area are you from?

If you must switch, better to do so now and give your 'old' team time to replace a player...

But I agree with the above post, if there is no reason to switch, then why switch?

what is it, the grass is always greener.......or at least the funding is
why is it parents are always looking for the best and to pay the least

I guess that could be, if you get the same but don't have to pay, I guess it isn't too difficult a decision...

We travel 1 hour and 20 minutes for the organization that she is on now......

And all of a sudden they are now going to start practicing another 20 minutes further than the summer months...So it is alot of different things...gas, miles, time and location location location.....and of course you go from paying $600 to free well.......

$600?! Cripes, did they hit and catch for her too for that price!! ;D

Sounds like your decision is made, better to do it now and give the team time to replace her.

Fully funded would be great.. my advise is to see if she can come to a couple of practices and make sure the team feels like a good fit for her. It could be a long summer if your DD wishes she had stayed where she was.

If things are good where you are currently are, you'd be insane to switch. But if $600 is that important (heck, just say $1000 including extra gas and travel), then go ahead and switch, but complain to no one if it doesn't work out.

Also, did your current team cut anyone in the fall tryout period with the thought that you (or your daughter) would be on the roster? Will your conscious be ok with abandoning that team and leaving it in worse shape? Does the current team cut players in November after offering them a spot in August?

Fully funded? Do they pay for family hotels and meals too? .....just my 2 cents.......Many startup organizations come in with lower fees to get going...however, once going and realizing the cost associated with a travel team....most organizations settle in the $300-$700 range.......thats just the tip of the iceburg as you know since you have been travelling for a bit it seems...the gas, hotels, food, etc..are all part of the price we as families pay to try to put our kids in good situations...oh sure some organization will offer a stud player a no fee enticement........wonder if the rest of the team is fully funded as well....if not...then further negativity could occur if and when the other parents find out...but if money is the real issue only you can say if it is affordable or not......I sense it is something deeper though and quite frankly if tryouts have been held and you were offered and accepted a position with a team, I say stick it out and wait until next year to change teams....it is kind of late in the game for a team that committed to you and you to them to pull the rug out from under them....no matter who it is......But if you are gonna do it...be fair and do it now so they have time to attempt to fill the void.

I think the key word is "HAPPY". This IS just a game and if you are unhappy you are nothing more than a potential cancer to the team. "Kinda" unhappy in November will grow to "Very" unhappy when it is 97 deg. this summer. If you are not happy with my team, I would rather you leave than hang on, play the commitment game and bring my whole team down.

Just a curious question that might take this off-topic, but does fully funded effect amateur standing in regards to OHSAA?

It sound like players are recieving some kind of payment to me . Overseas players ruin any chance of playing college ball for a few $$$ . Could this come back to hurt them for college ?

What I mean by fully funded is THe Team is sponsored by an organization (Corporation) and that all team uniforms helments and bags are paid for. Hotels and traveling costs are not. It would be nice if I could just write the whole story but........... Anyways just wondering what everyone was thinking....

It is sooooooooo worth any travel time, cost and everything else if your daughter is on a team that you are satisfied with. Both my daughters have traveled distances to play for teams. We started out with a one-hour drive. Now one hour seems like nothing. I am happy when it is two hours or less for practices.

Shoot it is 5 1/2 hours to watch my oldest daughter play on her home field now. I guess the travel was good practice for college.

why would you wonder what everyone is thinking?
your decision already has been made, you simply don't have the courage to pull the trigger and ruin a good experience for your daughter that would require less time and $$$ on your part
it should be your daughter's decision and only your daughter's decision
this reeks of selfishness and cheapness --

Wow....where did that come from? I dare say you could call any parent of a travel ball player "selfish" or "cheap" regardless of where they are playing. Do I agree that this should primarily be the daughter's descision, "yes", but sometimes the welfare of the family as a whole needs to be factored in. Unless you have an only child, love to drive, and happen to be "well off" there are other things to consider.

I agree with PP lol, I have 2 other DD's that are younger and if changing teams would lessen our burden financially and on the other members of the family I would consider doing the same thing. I would take my DD's wishes into account, but I/we are the parents would make the final decision.

Good Luck

The Buckeye Heat will henceforth cut any girl at any time we wish, for any reason we wish, if it makes us happy as an organization. After all, being happy is all that counts and we have to look out for #1 at all times. If some people get stepped on in the process, that's a shame, but we have to look out for ourselves.
