"No player, manager or coach shall call time"

So what would happen if a fan yelled time, then?

- No rule allows for "spectator interference" being called on a fan yelling anything. The spectators are generally out of the umpire's jurisdiction and nothing prevents them for shouting.

- One offensive conference per inning is pretty uniform across all baseball and softball. A basic rule an umpire should know! If a coach uses his one conference, then attempts another, the umpire should prevent it. If the coach persists and ignores the warning, he can be ejected.

- If a batter fails to appear when called for by the umpire, he may, after a given time (time varies by organization) access a penalty strike. He may access additional penalty strikes as time elapses, until the batter either takes her spot in the box or is called out on strikes.

- Mom let me move out of the basement ages ago. I'm now up in the spare mudroom/broom closet.

Sorry but I got to meet and watch Bretman work at Columbus. His first NSA and he did an excellent job. Too bad most umpires don't want to take the time to read and understand the rules. I had to work a high school 18U game last night, so it's not easy job.

Just a quick question in regards to this topic. If a pitcher is on the rubber and starts her wind-up and then stops at some point, WITHOUT SOMEONE YELLING TIME, is that an illegal pitch. If so, do the runners advance and is that a called ball on the batter?

...in general, any time the pitcher starts her motion and does not deliver the ball, it becomes an illegal pitch
