Tim,
I would have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. Get a berth and never play a game ? Really ? At least if a berth is handed down, the team that it was handed down to had to play games. I just think that sending a team to the "big show" just because they happened to be the only one that entered is wrong.
JMHO
Gopher, I see your side. I do but.. and here's the but.... Why would you penalize this team for getting in the tournament for a "wanted" berth... and just because nobody from Cincinnati and Dayton came to play? This team.. whoever it is ... and I surely hope nobody comes on here and say who it is as it is ... none of our business and to put a stigma on those girls is just wrong in my book.
@ Dan
Bored today.. not watching any games ?
But back to why.... maybe this team wanted to really go. Now, being from Cincinnati / Dayton area.. does it make more sense to stay home and play or go to Findlay to play in the states and look for one against X amount of teams. Save that money for the Nationals if you happen to get a berth !!!! Locals didn't support it. Rather go play States and that is great, too. To each their own. I am sure many signed up for the States BEFORE this event was out there. I think a lot of teams went to States with NO intention of going to Nationals.. and just wanted to play in a nice event full of teams they might not see the rest of the year if they don't travel much. I always thought that was what States was all about.. let alone the "bragging rights" well earned.
Now, here is a big thing, too.
SW Ohio is USSSA land. Been for years. Rumpke is ASA. City Parks at Hamilton, Ohio is ASA and Dayton is ASA / USSSA mixed. Harrison as of two years ago did an ASA event and USSSA went
I am sure. :lmao:
So, opportunities for local teams to play ASA SW Ohio events is pretty much limited in this area. Most Southern Ohio teams have to travel to do so most of the year unless they play USSSA in Cincinnati and Beavercreek.
Dan said it best.. the economy. They have to travel all year to play ASA.. so being close to home a weekend surely has to be a relief financially to this team's parents. Has to be.
They opened the Cincy Metro to include Dayton to gather more teams of course. They didn't come. Oh, well.
Why penalize this team on an early decision to stay home and play their Metro. If they was really wanting it... and it is cancelled because of lack of teams... where they going to go NOW ???? States are usually closed off to "new" teams.. what... 3 weeks before the event normally ( this year is an exception
).
Like Merlion said, " It is what it is"
And to ever believe it is right to put that team on here who won it.. is just absolutely wrong in my book.
I can hear it now... " That team went out there and lost and made Ohio in general look bad in the eyes of college coaches and this is why college coaches don't seriously look at Ohio girls, blah, blah, blah".
I hope if they do except the bid.. they work hard and get ready. Going in front of college coaches.. kind of "motivational" type of tool for some teams.
Go O - H - I - O.
But, I don't see "penalizing " this team for a coach's and probally his parent's decision to stay home and play.
@ Dan
How you been, Dan ? Hopefully all is well with you and yours.
