As another game in cancelled due to weather in NWOhio.....it makes me wonder......why is softball not a fall sport?

Most kids do not just play one sport and college coaches want kids that play multi sports . So think about all the girl sporting events that are in the fall. There are some schools that couldn't field enough for two teams in softball in the spring in all we have to compete against is track and tennis. My dd has played a fall sport for four years and I can tell you it's cold wet and snow in the fall each year during sectional time. Plus keep in mind this is the same time college softball is being played. In the summer and fall travel softball is playing show case tourney's so college coaches can watch and recruit them. Then you have a conflict with travel softball, and those that are serious softball players play travel ball.

i would love for them to switch volleyball and softball seasons!!!

Missouri has HS softball in the fall, as I was told by a coworker in our St Louis offices.

Many southern states have 2 softball seasons. Just saying.......
This is not a new idea. We've beat this horse around for so many years even I have scars for standing too close. lol. I championed to switch volleyball with softball and still believe it would be Ohio's best option but you guys have fun hashing it out.
FYI, OHSAA has extra doors to lock shut because of our actions. Don't be surprised if nobody is home should you go that route. lol

Although this idea has been debated at length over the years, and I think I am in the minority here, I say keep softball in the spring. It gets plenty cold in October. Some springs are good, some bad, but I would rather the weather be nice at the end of the season when tournament time rolls around than for it to be getting colder.

Good point - just like we are freezing every baseball postseason because they added another layer to the playoffs! Crazy!

If anyone remembers last fall I would say the season would not have been any better that was the most miserable time I have spent during a football season in a long time.

August through October is the best time. Not saying it would work for HS. but it is definitely the best time to play weather wise.
