Just Curious - Why a new team/organization?

I find, more often than not, behind the really good player is a parent who takes their kid to the field or hitting/pitching coach during the off seasons or off days. Travel versus rec.? There is noo doubt you will see better pitching in travel, and the game is more intense and strategic, but if you really desire to improve, it will happen with the extra hours of personal work whether you are taveling or playing local.

Absolutely true. One of our family quotes is: "Athletes are made in the backyard". I learned that from my father in law, who raised 4 great athletes, and we hold it true in our house too. Good things come to those that put in the extra work!

After my daughter last year of Rec, 2nd yr 12U, we decided to pursue Travel. I spoke to a handful of teams after tryouts located in Y-town, Cortland & Akron area, no one wanted to give her a tryout. (I honestly think the word Rec scared them off). There were about 5-7 other area players within our school district that were interested in travelat the time, so we began our own team. After the first year of travel at 14u my daughter was the only one to remain from our school system to play. After a couple years of highs & lows and other circumstances, we abandoned our travel org. It was hard to maintain with no local support.

And I will say to all parents and players, my daughter used that rejection as motivation to only get better.

Some of it is geography also. There are only a couple of travel teams in Northern Kentucky and most girls cross the river to play and practice. I think there are now several one or two team organizations trying to get started.

Maybe someone starts a team/organization because they enjoy teaching the game. I have considered it for the same reasons I've mentioned and many of the ones others have posted.
