I was wondering how does the ASA decide tournament sites for the State Tournaments? Is there an application process? We were in Zanesville this past weekend for 10U States at Rivercrest (?). In between games I found myself wondering how Zanesville landed the event.

How about National sights as well? DD was searching for things to do this year in Wilmington Delaware - sight of Eastern 16 U nationals. She came across this and had to laugh when she sent this to me at work:

Murder Town USA (aka Wilmington, Delaware)

Wow, that is concern to say the least. I honestly would like know if sharing these wonderful events (such as States and Nationals) are shared, or are the events always at the same location. There are sites that are top notch and situated in a perfect location, those arrangements probably should stay put, but then there are other events that might benefit from checking out other venues on occasion.

I imagine Zanesville hosted the event because of Rick Wagner he ASA Commissioners and he has the leases on Riverside Park for 5 years. I'm sure he had to submit a bid to host the event.

What wrong with Riverside Park? I've been to 5 tournaments so far in 2016 and Riverside Park hands down was the best site out of 5 sites.

Nothing really wrong, just thinking of all the other venues/communities that would benefit from hosting ASA States or other similar high profile events.

Id hate to see the other sites....

Ive had the pleasure or displeasure of coaching in 3 18u state tournaments there and its by far the worst venue ive been to. Its old and run down with baseball fields with mounds used in the back. The river stinks and after a monsoon rain one year overflowed into the park, i had to throw away my shoes after slodging thru the unique smelling mud. Bugs and mosquitoes so bad were still looking for my s.s. they flew off with. The only good thing i can say is the 5 mile walk thru the trees to the back fields made you think you were somewhere else.

I'm not sure when you was thier last, but they redone all the diamonds. Walking 5 miles to 5 & 6 diamonds, that's your bad they have parking right at the diamonds.

The only diamonds you have to walk a little and it only 250 yards from the parking lot would be diamond number 2 & 4.

My daughter's team played in Zanesville June 8-10. Worst run tournament that I've ever been to. On Friday they were charging to park so we bought the weekend pass for $15 a person. After Friday we never saw another person at the gate checking tickets. The fields were lined and drug once per day, didn't matter whether it was pool play or bracket play. Scheduling was crazy, it was 4gg 3 pool single elimination. We played all 3 on Friday, at 6, 8:40 and 10:15. Then played Saturday afternoon and won , next bracket game was 10 at night again. I saw another team watching us play from left field at around 11 ,went and talked to the coach and he told me that they were scheduled to play after us. They had played at 3 Saturday afternoon and didn't take the field again until 11:30 Saturday night. We both agreed that we will never go back to Zanesville. This doesn't even include some of the craziest umpiring that I've seen.
