So I went to a Friday night high school football game. I repeatedly heard one of the coaches use the F bomb towards a player. "Catch the Fuc*%&$ ball!" was used several times. Is cussing against OHSAA rules? Can you imagine hearing/seeing that in softball? Picture the third base coach yelling, "Bunt the Fu*&^%& ball!" Is it acceptable in football but not other sports?

You obviously don't get out much. Not saying it is right, but you clearly don't get out!

So you read my post about being at a game and then you comment that I don't get out?! Is your middle name oxymoron?

My wife heard the F bomb dropped 6 times today by my 10u daughters rec ball coach around all the 10 year old girls during their game. 10u fall ball. If I was there I would have liked to have washed his mouth out with soap myself. My daughter was upset about it and asked why he would keep saying that bad word.

That's horrible. I want to know if it's against OHSAA. I don't think teachers can cuss at students on school property without being suspended or fired. So is acceptable for coaches at public schools?

There is no specific OHSAA rule against it. It is up to each individual school to monitor that type of thing, as it should be.

I do not believe that cussing at a player increases their desire to play or improves their performance in boys or girls youth sports and I would have NO problem addressing in a constructive manner a coach of a team in or out of our organization that used inappropriate language during youth events/practices. And lets face it, very few ladies respond to that kind of coaching...

We had a very talented Head High School softball coach that had issues with being able to communicate or deliver her instruction in a manner that did not involve the F bomb or belittling the players.
After many parent complaints the school district relieved her of her coaching duties in 2008. We now have a coach that can communicate to the players without all the profanity or negativity and we have a D1 final 4 and two D1 sweet sixteen appearances as a result as well as, more involvement from the middle schools.

Personally, I have enjoyed success coaching and playing men?s major softball, semi pro football and youth sports and have found if you treat an individual with dignity and respect (kind of like managing an employee) while establishing and managing to clear expectations you generally do not need to go down the path of negativity to have success.
Now there are some good coaches out there that have a limited vocabulary and have to use colorful metaphors because they do not know any other words to use as a sentence enhancer other than profanity but, these coaches are or should be a fading breed in youth sports.

I have heard of coaches demonstrating less "problematic" behavior and paying a hefty price. When you are associated with a school, especially, be on your best behavior. I have no idea who you are commenting about, I don't care if it's football or any other sport, but I'd be surprised this is tolerated by school higher ups and OHSAA. I say this b/c I have sat in an OHSAA seminar, for non-coaches, they preach about doing the right thing and their principles; how these are student athletes, how most of these student-athletes aren't going to be pros, but we are teaching them to have good sportsmanship in the game of life, etc. I would feel compelled to call the school, if I saw this happening. Mind you, I have no problem with being stern with children, but this is not the behavior we want student-athletes to observe, you can be powerful and successful and win without being vulgar or touching children ie grabbing their shirt, etc. This is just an "old school" approach to coaching that should not be tolerated and doesn't breed success.

There is a double standard when it comes to male & female sports . Our football coach yells the F-bomb none stop through out the game with administrators present at the games . You can clearly hear him in the stands . Mean while our girls varsity volley ball coach was asked to step down because a player accused him of saying the F-word during a match ( no one else even heard him say it ) . I beleive it is wrong that its ok for football coaches to get away with this ! Tony Dungy ( former NFL football coach and superbowl winner ) said as a coach he never once yelled a profane word to any player . This is proof that you can be successful with out that kind of language . Of course this is just my opinion !

I agree. That coach might have a law suit. If he/she can prove that it is allowed in other sports.

Would have an issue when my kids were young. But I come to realize kids start talking like this between each other because they hear t.his at home. When they go to college? Game over between each other.

To those who read above statement and think we cuss at home? N my 36 year,s with my wife she hasn't said word $hit in front of me or my kids but their grandma has. My kids don't swear in front of me either, but I have as they have gotten older.
