The Gateway Sports Complex Under New Management will be offering an indoor fastpitch league for 2 age groups. The Middle school division will be for girls grades 4th-7th and the High school division will be for grades 8th-12th. This is a great facility with a great indoor field. USSSA Umpires for every game. Eight (8) players on defense at one time. Full teams may participate but only 8 allowed on the field at one time. Free substitution for the entire game, and continuous batting order. This is a great way to play during the Winter!! ?:) No longer do teams from the Dayton area have to drive 2 or 3 hours to play indoor softball. This league is open to Travel teams or Middle School teams or High School teams as Indoor Softball does Not violate OHSAA Rules in any way. Any questions at all Contact Rob England at 937-829-0662 or e-mail ROB16U@AOL.COM or Dee at 937-224-7529.

This is good news. How big is the building that they would play in? Where is it located, and when will the league run?

I hope that the management is not the same folks who ran the summer tournaments there, that was not well run at all.

Would be nice to see this get off the ground.

The manager is NEW. ?:) ?I do not know the exact square footage, but it is a huge soccer field. The field layout will be as such so that there will not be a lot of left field, but you will have center and right. Eight (8) players can play on the field at one time with unlimited substitutions. You may use a continuous batting order but the batting order can not change during the game. The Gateway Sports Park is located on Stanley Ave. About 1/4 mile South of Rt. 4 just on the North side of Dayton. Season starts October 22 and runs for 7 weeks with a Championship tournament on the 8th week.

Is this full teams only or is there an open roster signup for teams that are maybe short a couple of people?

The goal is to get eight (8) middle school teams grades 4-6 and eight (8) high school teams grades 8-12. School teams, Travel teams, or Club teams are allowed. This league is meant to keep the girls playing during the Winter Months. It is to be competitive but also fun. Showing good sportsmanship will be a priority. Dee is the new Manager at Gateway and she can be reached at 937-224-7529. This League is filling up very fast.
Dee can answer any questions you have about a second league. As of right now, only full teams can sign up but that is subject to change I am sure.

The cost is $550.00 per team. The cost of Food and Drink at Gateway is Very cheap and will serve as a great way for the players and parents to stay refreshed before, during, and after the games.

We are looking forward to playing there this fall and winter. Should be a lot of fun. We hope that the competition is good.

While playing indoor is not the same as playing outdoors it is better then nothing. I have seen the ceilings in most indoor arenas cause some pretty wacky plays that you would never see outdoors.

Do you know how many umpires there will be per game?

The cost seems a little pricey, we pay I believe 570 at playmakers in Marysville and that is for 15 games. You are offering 7 plus a tournament so will that be around a total of 10 games?

Danger1 how many players can play the field at playmakers? Also what is the distance from field to ceiling?

I have heard good things about playmakers but it is a bit of a drive from the dayton area. Of course if a team can get double the amount of games foir the same money then that may be something to consider.

Rich, I don't think the ceiling is as high as Gateway and basicly you play an infield but you have a continuous batting order. It is a drive for the Dayton area but for us we are 35 minutes from both places

It is a nice facility and checking the rates around central Oh. they are right along with them.I do know Playmakers start in late Oct. and runs for15 weeks. We are still up in the air as to where we will go, sometimes it is nice to try a new place.I may take my summer team to Gateway and the High School to Paymakers that might work out.

I agree with choosenone. It's not the same as outdoors but atleast it keeps the girls playing instead of idling. I don't believe there is one great place to play. People seem to find fault in everything. Glad to see someone take initiative for the girls.

We are not finding fault with the buildling, overall we think that it is nice to have something available. Playing in the off season has it's advantages.

We do hope that the competition will be decent. With the mix of travel ball teams, middle school teams, and thrown together teams there may end up being a huge disparity between the talent levels. I know that our travel team for example is much better then our middle school team. playing down could end up being a bad thing if you know what I mean.

Also I am not so sure that Gateway is simply taking the inititive for the girls. If that were the case then they would provide the playing area for free. They are in it for the money and I have no problem with that. They provide a service not a social event just to make girls and thier parents happy. I think that we should all keep that in mind.

Lets hope that it is run better then the outdoor activities were run.

The Gateway Sports Complex is in a central location for everyone who is Near the Dayton Area. This "Indoor" Complex will be the home of the Valley Storm Fastpitch Organization During the Winter. It may not be the best complex in the State but it is indoors, heated, and close to home for a lot of us. The Cost is not that bad considering the Location of the Complex. Location, Location, Location is the name of the game. The Miami Valley has long needed an indoor league facility for the girls to play in during the Winter Months. This Sport is about the girls and the Dayton Area teams have needed the ability to play some type of indoor softball to stay competitive. The Valley Storm Fastpitch Organization has stepped up to the plate and has helped Organize this Winter League for the benefit of the Dayton Area players. Will it be the best experience that we could imagine?
I doubt it, but to me, playing at all in the middle of Winter in Dayton indoors is Something Long over due and it will benefit the girls. One USSSA umpire per game will be scheduled. The league is almost full as of tonight.
We are going to do a Spring Tune-up League starting Jan. 28 and running 8 weeks. Same price. It too is filling up already. More info soon.

choosenone, I'm not saying you are finding fault I am simply saying that you can't please everyone in general (no direct statement towards you or anyone in particular). I'm just glad to see something in our area and you don't have to drive a country mile (even though we do) to play ball. I think we should give people a chance to prove themselves. If it's not what we think then we won't be back next year and chalk it up a lesson learned I guess. I don't know exactly who took the initiative to put this thing together but lets hope it works for the girls sake.

Depending on the Roster size of the team, the player fee will only be $50.00-$70.00 for the entire league season. That is pretty cost effective considering it is indoors in the Winter. :) Please don't sign your team up if you are going to complain and whine and post negative things all winter long. We want this to be a positive event for the girls as much as possible.

no need to become testy Valleystorm. Just some people asking questions. I hope that your over sensitivity is not an indication of how people will be treated in the league. You seem rather defensive, and there is no need to be. People are bound to ask questions, I think that they should be welcomed. Afterall are we not the customers?

I do not run a team, we just have a player that may play there. We did not see anything that we posted as negative, just asking questions and communicating with others.

the spring league idea is a good one as well.

Choosenone, I was not pointing anything at you. I was just making a statement that we should all be glad that we will be able to play indoors in Dayton. There are however people out there that cannot be pleased no matter what and those are the ones that should just not sign up. This is not my league, I will just have a team in this league. The Valley Storm is just helping to promote this league. I hope as you do that it goes well all Winter long .
