With the current state of affairs, one would hope that if tournaments do resume that there are waaaaaaay higher priorities that giving an umpire an "ass chewing."
If there are any umpires on here, what are your feelings about resuming games? Do you plan on working games?
Started a new thread asking these questions.

With the task force meeting last week, are there any rumblings of when we might hear some sort of announcement on opening tournaments up? We are supposed to play our first tournament the first weekend in June and have hotel rooms booked. We can cancel up until June 4th, but just was curious what anyone is hearing about some sort of announcement or at least a little guidance.

Dale, each day something new either happens or changes... day by day up until the cancellation date. I think you will have solid answers by then.

Hopefully this "task force" results in something productive soon and they don't just "meet" for the next several weeks. Supposedly Dewine is expected to layout guidelines today for opening child care centers. At least he is finally getting around to addressing things that involve the (least impacted) child demographic. If they are going to allow groups of children to be INSIDE child care centers all at once, they need to allow children to congregate at OUTSIDE open spaces. IMO, there is no way they are going to get kids under 10 to wear face coverings all day inside child care centers, so it shouldn't be a requirement for kids on a ball field. It will be interesting to hear what these guidelines are going to be.

Just a quick note , NCAA is voting on Wed to extend blackout period until June 30th. If that passes what will some of the Big showcases do ? I assume D3 and Junior coaches could watch in June . I say play just play for Fun in June and knock off the rust. Get ready for July 1st for the 16/18u ....Younger groups got out have some fun

This has been a continued point of confusion for me. I get the steps taken previously by the Governor. I don't have to agree, but I get it. However, I DO NOT understand how we continue to discuss opening INDOOR gathering places while we continue to have no real discussions (that I have seen) about OUTDOOR places. This does not necessarily mean a softball field, just outdoor spaces in general. Easier to spread out, air movement, ect.

Everyone is going to have to knock some rust off, regardless of age group. I would be shocked if they don't push back the blackout period. I think it would still be too difficult to travel for a lot of these coaches. I guess we will see what happens. I agree though. Assuming we can get out there in June, lets all use this time to have some fun and remember why they play.

Every day is different for me. One day I'm thinking that we can salvage some sort of a season and the next day I can't see how it's going to be possible.

Today is a pessimistic day and all I keep thinking is, the pro sports leagues aren't opening any time soon. I can't imagine the ODH allowing youth/HS sports to take place this summer.

I hope I am wrong.

Although I don't agree with it.. I dont see the governor or the ODH allowing anything that they don't consider to be "essential" to the economy. Sadly, the kids have given up so much and they probably won't get anything back anytime soon. I hate to see some missing out on huge milestones like graduation and last year of sports for a virus that basically has no effect on them.

One of the biggest differences between the two is seating. It is a world of difference between being in a professional football or baseball stadium, and being at Berliner. Something as simple as spectators must bring their own seats to sporting events--no sitting in existing seating (like bleachers).

I’ve went back and forth everyday for 2 months also. One day u think your playing soon and the next day u think the whole season is cancelled. And I agree it makes sense that u should be able to be outside playing ball when stores/restaurant are open. As it would be a less dangerous situation/area. I think unfortunately the part the gets forgotten, that has me feeling a little concerned right now is that they and or DeWine will consider ball in general non essential. It’s not business so it doesn’t have to happen. So that might lead to a longer wait than what makes sense to us with the other stuff opening. Hope I’m wrong

Thanks, now you've given me another reason to be pessimistic about this today, LOL. I wasn't even considering the spectators. I was just thinking about how impossible it is to have practices & games with the 6' and the gathering rules in place.

Reporter asked the question today about youth sports. Dewine said youth sports is very important and it is important that kids have something to do during the summer and it is important for people to be able to plan. He said there is a task force working on it and hopes to have something out soon as far as guidance. He said government will not be micro-managing it. They are trying to take best practices and give broad guidelines and allow people to take it from there.

still on track for june 1st practices. heck thats 3 weeks away! we are good. :D
I really hope you're right! The fact that non essential businesses (retailers and inside dining) are opening on Friday but they have not even given a time frame for outdoor activities to begin is absolutely absurd!!!

It would certainly be a problem if the 10-person gathering thing was extended into June. I don't think it will be extended at 10, but probably at a higher number. Not many people will remember, when Governor DeWine put the first mass gathering restriction into place on 3/12, he said it did not apply to outdoor settings in non-confined, open-air areas. On that day, he said that spring high school sports could continue and not be in violation of the order.

Last Monday, on 5/4, he said that he viewed the 10-person gathering limit as a personal choice
people have to make. He said his view was that people would gather in groups when they are ready to. We just need the written orders to catch up with what the Governor has been saying.

MLB sent a proposal to the players union looking to play baseball without fans in July today. I think it doesnt bode well for youth sports, which has been stated to be the last things to be considered.

I miss my Yankees.

We'll definitely have open-air youth sports before we have professional sports with fan attendance in confined stadiums.
