Wondering the same thing myself. Saw a few good comments on previous threads but don't know anybody who owns one to try it out.

It is great if your daughter is very school dedicated, in terms of home work projects, etc and doesn't have a lot of extra "work out" time. It is supposed to increase speed but also strengthen rotator cuff and balance the muscle structure on the opposite side of their pitching arm. I would say that yes it is a great device for all of the above. We have a home gym with it in there and I like her to alternate seperate shoulder exercises with the windmill so I incorporate it into her routine. Last year she wasn't doing a lot of weights as she is a naturally built powerhouse so she worked the windmill a lot. This year she is doing more weights as her speed isn't where it should be for her age, 16 on Monday, so we are still using it. I guess, because it is expensive, if she is young and not doing a lot of upper body work then by all means it is well worth the money!!!! I know that at my daughters age a lot of the kids are no longer using it as they think that there speed is where it should be. I can honestly say that by observation of my daughters freshman year, the older and "more experienced" pitchers were no faster then my daughter and she never got a chance to pitch last year. I do own a radar gun as well.

Sorry for the rattling, I hope that this answers your question.

Thanks for the information. No problem about "rattling", these are the things I like to hear. Sounds like something I can look into.

I agree with Carolyn. We have a Finch Windmill and it works great. Not just for my daughter but for everyone in the family. My husband has a weak lower back and it has seemed to help his strength. My dd isn't as dedicated to using it as she should be (she is 11) but I do believe that it will help her tremendously, especially moving to 12U with the bigger ball and 40' distance.

I believe this tool is what turned my dd into a travel ball caliber pitcher. Not only did we see speed increase in just under a month, her overall armstrength was phenominal! the drills my 10U and now my 8U dd's do take less than 10 mins. a piece. Also this is a quality built machine and well worth the high price tag. i would definately recommend the finch windmill. BTW @ 10 U B4 the Finch windmill my dd's speed was 37-38 mph after one month with this machine she was 43-44mph after about 8 mos. of use and her regular training she is flirting with 50 mph. WE LOVE THE FINCH WINDMILL!!

This device, while it will increase strength and subsequently speed, is really designed for balance in one-hand dominated sports...not just softball. Be it bowling, softball, baseball, tennis, shot-put, etc., it is a really good idea to balance from r-l to avoid overdevelopment of one side...and possibly scholiosis(curvature of the spine) resulting from that overdevelopment. My 11year old DD uses it almost every day as she both bowls and pitches. I have used it at times for myself and you can definately feel an improvement in shoulder strength. Only takes about 3-4 minutes at 20 reps each direction. It is expensive but I think well worth it. I bought mine used on E-bay for about $200.
