Last night we were in a game with a mostly 13U team I think that there were 3 14's present playing an 18U team. They were home team and up 5-2 time was up and ump asks their manager if they would like to end the game or play out the inning since they had already won the game....their manager proceeds to say let's end it because I wouldn't want to embarass anyone....My husband's mouth dropped. We could not believe he actually said that. They were only up by 3 runs against girls that are 3-4 yrs younger than them most.....we ended up playing longer and the scored 4 more runs but none of our girls found it embarassing......what a jerk. But I recall a similiar statement from the same org not sure which age group but it was definitley older by 1 or 2 age groups last year but I believe our girls ended up winning to game. I guess this is the summer of idiots......

Not often do you see another player help a catcher!--Thats great

As for the coach, it just shows poor sportsmanship.

The only time I ever got thrown out of a game really left a bad taste in my mouth for tournament directors. I was in a tournament (I won't say which one) and we were playing a team that was VERY well known throughout Ohio. We were in our first year but were doing well against them and they didn't like that. Their scorekeeper was the coaches wife and the biggest loudmouth I have ever heard. She heckled our players from the 2nd inning on, calling us names and telling us how much we stunk and had no right to be on the same field as them. After listening to this garbage for an inning, I told the umpire that he needed to shut her up, she was starting to effect my players with the name calling. After he said nothing to her and she continued belittling my players, a few parents approached me and said if that woman called their daughters fat a$$es one more time, they were pulling their kids off the field and going home. I again told the umpire my concerns and he said if I open my mouth again, I was gone. I told him that I was not arguing any call or judgement, I just wanted him to stop that woman from calling a bunch of 12 year olds names and cussing at them. He threw me out instead of her and when I tried to talk to the tournament director about it, he wouldn't even talk to me. I understand that most of the time the ejections are legit, but to throw a coach out for defending thier players against an adult with no sense is crazy. Then to have the TD not even let you explain your side is even worse. I never went back to that tournament and told everyone I know what a joke it was.

Sounds like "home cooking"! My dd and I would have been right behind you!

As the father of a catcher. I am quite proud that my DD will always retrieve the bat for the opposing team and hand it to the current batter or one of the their team mates - And I mean hand it to them. She never tosses or drops it. The majority of the girls thank her, a few act totally confused as to why she is doing it. She takes pride in what she does behind the plate. Catchers get the least amount of recognition in my humble opinion.
:yahoo:
I have only witnessed one time where an opposing batter grabbed it out of her hands as she extended it and then threw it back to their dug out. My DD looked back at me behind home plate and I saw her laughing threw her head gear. :lmao:

later that night on the drive home we both got a good laugh out of it. ;&

I have to laugh. ohlovessteelers, wasnt it your coach/manager the one watching the game from the parking lot? Now i dont have a dog in this fight, I was watching the game thinking how sad it was watching a game that had more to do with the head coaches than it did about softball. Thinking how thankful my dd doesnt play for either one.

Ha I think Maybe I know this questionable Coach, at tryouts he called all the girls idiots, dummies, so fourth, I knew right there & then my child wouldn't be playing ball for this "gentleman"! If not him, they are TWINS!

That was the only game in which our coach has been tossed and he was sticking up for one of our girls. After all of the B.S. from the other coach throughout the entire game, it was sort of funny that blue tossed my dd's coach. Found out later TD's dd was on the other team.

Come on, I heard him swearing and pointing at the other team and coach on the field after the game. I think he might even of threatened to beat him up. But its ok if you want to defend your coach he still stooped to his level and was not any better example than the other one. As far as the TD having a daughter on one team or the other not quite sure what that had to do with it, but I did here him clearly warn both coaches but I am pretty sure the ump threw him out not the TD.

Very happy to have dodged that "coaching" bullet. I know they are a good team, but why put up with abuse...
