DD trying out for several different teams due to merger of her team with another team. At each tryout we have been told you will get either a call or e-mail within a few days as to whether or not she made the team.
Only one team lived up to what they said. Also, I don't see a problem if they at least said, if you don't hear from us in 72 hours, your daughter isn't quite what we were looking for...at least I would have that to go on. It gets frustrating sitting and waiting for the phone to ring.

(By the way she finally received a couple of offers, but has 72 hours to decide and get back to them). But not everyone has gotten back to us.

Also-I have noticed that the number of girls at the tryouts seems to be a lot less for u16 than in the past, anyone else notice that?

I think this usually happens with the last few spots on a team. You make an offer to a girl for the last spot, she needs a few days to mull it over, hence, the cone of silence. If she refuses then you move on to the next kid in line. If you are #3 on the list you could be waiting more than a few days. The power is with the player though, if you don't want to wait, move on to the next best offer and don't look back. I'm sure there is a 2nd choice team waiting on you for an answer, while you are waiting on your first choice for an offer. It's a vicious cycle this time of year.

It is extremely frustrating! The first impression I get from a team is that they are not as reputable and professional as they present.
There is nothing wrong with letting someone know that they are not quite what the team is looking for and then calling later and explaining the circumstances have changed and offer the opportunity.

Coach: You're our first choice!
Player: I don't believe you - tryouts were a week ago.
Coach (a la Max): Would you believe I've been trying to get ahold of you?
Player: No, I've been sitting by the phone waiting for a call.
Coach: How about you're our first choice after all the others that declined our offer?

Creepy, aren't they? Wait until you find out that the ones your daughter winds up playing for are the creepiest of all. That's always fun.

TheRinger nailed it, great answer.

Also, I'm in agreement to recommend you nail your spot on a roster with the team that IS making the offer and move along. If your plan B team is close to what your holding out for, why not go with the ones that seem the most interested? As mentioned, all are told you'll hear from the club in X amount of time, yet the primary players they are interested in keeps them at arm's length to make a decision. It's a chance you take to remain in limbo before making a commitment.

I've had it happen many times and for those players that want to think it over, that sends up a flag to me. I plan to nail down my roster. I tell those involved there are no such thing as reserved spots and once the roster is full I will not add any more players. Their reluctance to sign triggers my own plan B and I will pursue the other players on my list. If the next player commits, the primary player will be notified at my earliest convenience the roster is now complete and thank them for considering our program.

I don't look back.

If a team really wants a player, then an offer will be made the same day or maybe the next day. It's always best to keep going to other tryouts if you do not hear anything.

Nope, my pizza delivery job keeps me busy enough.

Hoosiers, they're only good for community service work and tackle dummies for Buckeye's football.

To update: My DD ended up with 4 offers. One said they would email me the paperwork on Monday-but still haven't received it. She really was intereseted in 3 of the teams-the one is the one who hasn't sent the paperwork yet. (I also heard from a friend that they offered her DD a spot on the same team and she still hasn't received the paperwork either) The other said we would hear something in 2 days, but haven't heard back. But we did hear from her #1 choice-she had a call back last Saturday and they e-mailed us Sunday eve with 72 hours to decide. So I e-mailed them and told them that is the team she wants. The 4th offer came the same eve we had the tryout and we declined the offer because we had just heard about her #1 team offering.
As for the rest of the teams (5 others) she tried out for-never did hear back from any of them.

I do wish everyone a great upcoming season-and to those DD I hope they land on the team of their dreams and to the coaches, may you get the players of your dreams :)

I can totally relate to all the comments-unfortunately it's a two-sided affair with waiting on both sides...and it gets frustrating on both sides.

Thanks philbob, she is excited. Unfortunately her previous team, witht he merger did not do fall ball, and teams were set wtih games starting, and she didn't find a team to get on for the fall...I told her take a much needed break..she's played/practiced year round for the past 4 years...so of course she was outside throwing the ball against her pitchback this eve...lol
