That's not true at all. I don't advocate the gameface because it looks bad and hinders the players' ability to make plays. I don't care what anyone says, a player will not see the ball as well with that mask as without it.

You read the post about college coaches balking when they see a player wearing one. I've been watching the college games on TV and haven't seen ONE. It's NOT going to evolve to the college game. It's going to remain right in the travel game where it belongs-- where nobody will lose their position because a ball they couldn't see rolled through their legs. Let that happen in the Final Four and the coach would say, "you AND your mask can ride the bench!"

As i said previously check Texas and Texas A&M both D1 Schools!!Its coming whether we choose to believe it or not. I bet the coach of A&M wishes his short stop was wearing one before she got hit and has to have a plate hold her eye in socket ,the coaches sure dont have a problem with her wearing one now nor does the coach for Texas have a problem with the hot corner at first base wearing one!!!!

They don't have cages on the front of the majority of the batting helmets and I haven't seen any of them swinging a Miken Halo either, so I figure they won't look at my daughter because of that.

Guess what! Most of the pitchers I've seen on the tube today were throwing 65mph plus, and I haven't seen any of our pitchers throwing that fast so I figure that I rather have my dd have her eyesight and be able to read her studies. That way she can make a living after college.

You don't advocate the gameface because it "looks bad". Thats just stupid! :eek:While it may hinder vision somewhat at first most players adapt to them quite well and without the fear of taking one to the face it can actually make some players more agressive fielders. Remember these players are girls first so why risk their faces. You don't get extra points for a mangled face from a misplayed ball its still an error.

Anyone know of any place in the Dayton / Cincy area that carries different brands and sizes of the protective mask?

DD's youth size gameface it getting too small, but adult is too large. Dicks only carries youth sizes. Looks like the Rip-It might be more forgiving size wise.

My DD wears a Defender from Softball Sales in adult. Adjustable chin cushion and doesn't have that bothersome center strap that always messes with the ponytail. :lmao:

And they come in cool team colors........... Like PURPLE.

Sad:

The definite impression was that wearing a game face mask was a negative in the recruiting calculation. I followed up with the question whether we were doing our girls a disservice by requiring or encouraging masks and the three sort of waffled, but again I read them to say that it was a negative factor in recruiting. I think their concern was whether the mask interfered with the infielder's vision when fielding.

I would be interested in knowing what three schools these were, to see if they are a school we have talked to...and yes, my DD plays third and pitches and absolutely wears a gameface, not just because I want her to, but because she is smart enough to know that she should.... ;&

The point about a face mask obstructing vision, is . . . ludicrous, to put it mildly. Is the vision of a hockey goalie impaired because of the full-face masks they wear? Do football players complain that they can't see the ball because of the face mask? What about catchers? That is such a specious argument.

Actually I remember having this as a vocabulary word in school, but in the intervening years forgot that I knew it. Or something like that.

The fact that you remembered this as a spelling word in school, definitely qualifies you as big-brained.

Call extra innings in Miamisburg, last time I was there they were carrying both the game face and the other brand that is plastic. I would give you the number but I don't have it handy.

Gophy... you must be referring to "Lester's Dictionary".... and I'd be using it to check the spelling of Thesauraus...

Glad to know that when you step away for one day because the dirt is dry :yahoo:, you have to be on the look out for 'shout-outs'.
