We have approx 25 registrations thus far, fairly typical for Oct. We have spots open in all age divisions, visit www.gapss.org for more details

Some of our Buckeye Heat teams are going to GAPSS and some are going to NSA State. I think the fact that the NSA WS is in Columbus is having a big effect on some of those decisions to go NSA.

Well it sounds like we got ASA to listen to us.. At least we wont contend with our own sanctioning body July 4-6.. Now as far as NSA, it will be up to those teams to decide which venue is more enticing. I totally understand what NSA is doing, but I will take our venue up against any other venue that weekend. JMHO.

I think if the NSA WS was anywhere but Columbus, GAPSS would not see much of an effect at all. Five years ago the NSA WS seemed to be the one to play (except for the very few who dared to shoot for ASA) no matter where it was. Today, NSA still has its share of Ohio teams who play its WS, but it becomes easier every year to qualify NSA.

With the requirement to play at its State and the insistence of playing its State at inferior facilities, NSA has harmed itself irrepreably over the years. Ohio teams seem to be spread out all over the place for Nationals now, including USSSA, PONY, USFA, ASA A, ASA Eastern and some who go to Colorado in July and then don't play a Nationals.

I know I'll be happy to be back at GAPSS, even though my team can't seem to get over the hump there.

Thanks for the nice comments, coming from 2 men who have been around softball a long time, it means a lot to me and Gapss.

We have had many many inquiries about our tournament. Hard work and dedication to details always pays off, and we think it should be made public about who is entered. It will be another fine field, and we will make sure the venues are ready for everyone.

If this is the case for the 2009 tournament, there may be alot of very good teams disappointed when they are not playing in this tourney, because they chose to play at NSA States.

When are teams going to quit allowing NSA to hold them up??
nsa is the only organization in which you've qualified for a national tournament but you're still not in.
what a bunch of crock
it's a no-brainer between playing at GAPSS and nsa states
the competition at GAPSS is truly outstanding, the tournament is run extremely well. the fields are fantastic. it's probably the best overall tournament in Ohio.

Thanks for the points and kudos.

We will evaluate the 2009 tournament selection process at our September meetings. Hang in there. I understand everyone's concerns.

Catsbats.....you can't blame teams for wanting to play at the "NSA World Series" when it's in our own back yard. ? For some teams, ? this may be thier only opportunity to play teams from Florida, Georgia, Alabama, ect... ?without traveling 16 to 18 hours by car to get there. ?The NSA World Series is a GREAT experience for the girls, but in order to play in this World Series, ?you must play at NSA States ?(that's the rule.....for now anyway). ? The GAPSS is a Great tournament. ?We have enjoyed it for many years, but when you get a World Series less than an hour from your back door, ? it's hard to pass up !! ? I don't think that the GAPSS will have any problem filling the age groups. ?It will still be a Great tournament ( just alot of new faces....and some familiar ones too ).

Issue I have at 18U is that NSA hasn't decided where it's playing 18U "A".....

Scoremore, you said it exactly. GAPSS is the second best tourney in the state of Ohio, next to the Stingray's ;). I would much rather play in GAPSS than states but NSA Nationals in Columbus is a no brainer.

LADY_KNIGHTS why should the teams that decided to play in the 2008 GAPSS tournament be penilized for making thier decision this year? I personally think that if this is GAPSS normal process, then they will lose alot of credibility if they change it because some teams that played there in the past decided to play elsewhere in 2008. It would be a slap in the face to those who had the same tough decision and decided to play GAPSS instead of the NSA states.

I would be surprised to see the fine group of people who run this tournament be pressured by teams who played there in the past but not this season, to change thier process just to suit them. It is a choice, simple as that. We all have to live with them.

Ah yes, the joy of running a tournament. It certainly is a tough task to keep everyone happy. The good tournaments are consistant in their decisions. We will do what is right, count on that, and we will evaluate everything at our meetings. Some teams will be upset, no doubt, but it is not possible to make everyone happy. Even with the competiting tournaments this weekend, we are filling up with quality teams, so we must be doing something right.

We chose to go to GAPSS instead of attending NSA states. ?It is my hope, as you stated, that they keep there current format of allowing previous years teams first dibs. ?That was my whole point in bringing it up. ?If they stay with their current format, in 2009, we'll hear moaning and groaning from the Lasers, Doom, Stingrays, Miami Valley Express, Buckeye Heat, etc...and my team will be at the top of the list. ?Bitter sweet, after getting left out last year. ;)

Now if I can figure out how to get the NSA States on the same weekend as Stingrays, when NSA Nationals are in Columbus...Life will be good!!!

Lady Knights you would then need to change the name to Great American Softball Showcase . With out the premier teams . You need to leave premier out of the name .
