You are absolutely correct, I do not want Blue making leaps. I want the rules interpreted as written, nothing more, nothing less.

I guess it would go a long way if they clearly stated what a legally hit ball was or even if they took the approach that USSSA did and spelled it out, but they didn't. I think it is very wrong to assume that because it is clear in USSSA that that means the same thing in ASA or NSA. As we all know they all have their unique differences.

I am enjoying the debate though.

Debate?????? This is not a debate. This is cut and dry...one way only. At least with a debate there are two sides. This is definitely one sided...per the rule book.

BATTED BALL A batted ball is any ball that hits the bat or is hit by the bat and lands either in fair or foul territory. No intent to hit the ball is necessary.

A strike is called by the umpire...for each pitched ball swung at and missed which touches any part of the batter.

No assumptions........just the rules.

It was not legally batted into fair territory because, by your own admission, nowhere does it say the hands are an extension of the bat. Now, look up the definition of a batted ball. I bet if you read the definition of a batted ball, you will find your ultimate answer.

There is no definiton of a "legally batted ball" even though that term is used often in the rules. They do however have a definition of an "Illegally batted ball", so I would propose that if it is not illegal it must be legal.

Here is the definition from the rule book:

Illegally Batted Ball: Occurs when the batter hits the ball fair or foul and:
A. At the time the bat makes contact with the ball, the entire foot is completely outside the lines of the batter's box and on the ground.

B. At the time the bat makes contact with the ball, any part of the foot is touching home plate.

C. An illegal, altered or non-approved bat is used.

D. At the time the bat makes contact with the ball, the batter's entire foot has contacted the ground out of the batter's box and returned to hit the ball while inside the box.

Thank you to all who helped me amuse myself during a very boring day at work.

Being proved wrong is easily done! At the next game when you see a batter being hit by a pitch while swinging, and should the ball go fair and the ump calls Dead Ball Strike! Just jump up, run out there on the field and express your views loudly to the plate ump about how wrong they are about making such a call. You will be proven wrong! :lmao:

FASTPITCH! Anything else, And you're playing to SLOW!
