If you are coaching and make this comment, it's one of two things... Keep your options open....we plan on letting you go for (fill in the blank for the reason) OR Keep your options open...as you are a great player and will be an asset to any team, even a better team that what we will field this year, I just want whats best for you.... I have heard coaches make this comment... some for the honest best interest in a great player, others because they want better talent, politics, etc. I'd love to see a thread started on the politics alone... maybe there is one.. I just haven't found it yet.
As a parent hearing this... you should always keep your options open. Being closed minded will only limit your DD's potential and opportunites. Being cut from one team opens many doors... If you take the negitivity and use the energy to make it positive, get better, try harder, it only helps your daughter become a better player. Being subjected to this ourselves, we took the high road, worked harder and found our DD had a talent with pitching. Had we not "kept our options open", my DD would not have had the opportunites she'd had.
I just hope all those parents/dd's being cut or not called back from tryouts take the high road. Too many take it too personally and cause too much drama. Good luck to all the young ladies giving it their all to play softball. I hope the passion for the game isn't overshadowed by hurt feelings and drama.
