My DD was informed that if you play fall ball you will be unable to play high school ball. I told her who ever told her that was misinformed. Can i get some confirmation on this matter?

Now that I have my pdf files working again I went to the ohsaa web site and looked at the rules. I didnt see anything that would prohibit it. No more than four from the same high school and not the school coaching staff. Make sure she does not participate in any open gyms while fall ball is in session.

To my knowledge, chicoflip is correct.

Keep in mind, school districts have their own set of rules and guidelines. It's always a good idea to question the softball coach and/or the AD to find out if they have a rule on the subject. Some schools have rules stating if your daughter is participating in a sport during it's season that players are not allowed to participate in other sporting activities. This would be an example of a school district rule not enforced by the OHSAA, but enforced locally.

Chico,

What is the conflict with open gyms?

After thinking about it a little I dont think there would be any since open gym is not an official practice preview or scrimmage;)

I am new at the High School dd will be a freshman. But is it true that you cannot go to open gyms durning High School Practice (not sure how I want to word that); during same period. But, you can go to "paid" instruction during that time, for example pitching or hitting coach? So a loop hole would be a paid open gym??? yes/no??

There is a "NO Contact" period for HS coaches and players till September 6th, after that Open Gyms can begin and Fall ball is ok as well, provided no HS coaches or paid or unpaid volunteers are coaching the team.

A girl can play fall ball as long as there are NO MORE THAN 4 Girls from the same HIGH SCHOOL on the Squad. Also no HIGH SCHOOL Coach from their school is envolved in any form.

This is also for Middle schools too if you are sanctioned with the OHSAA......

Good point Hilliard. Some people misunderstand the difference of middle school players playing spring ball as a parks and rec program or a school sponsored program.

She is fine till HS ball starts and I'm not going into specific dates, but use the first day of HS practice as a good rule of thumb. HS coach can have softball related contact with any incoming freshman prior to HS ball with no problem. Because until she plays HS ball their is no certainty she will play.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but incoming freshmen don't count until the first official HS game or scrimmage.

Unless it's changed in the last 6 years, OHSAA told me it doesn't matter if they haven't played, will play or won't play, the rule is still 4 from any sanctioned school including Freshman. That as well as all coaches rules apply

A girl is not a member of her High School Squad untill she plays in a GAME, SCRIMMAGE, or PREVIEW for her high school team.

That means against another school's team. The JV and Varsity teams from the same school scrimmaging each other does not count. Many people get this confused.
