High school ball taking lumps

Ok, theres been quite a few posts recently pointing out the worst of school ball, everything from crappy teacher coaches, inexperienced hirings, hazing, upperclassmen playing over better players, politics, and the ultimate.... the dreaded daddyball. It makes you wonder why you'd even bother with it. I realize everyones situation is different. How about some POSITIVE aspects unique to playing school ball?

ILL go first...
My DD is having a kick teaching the same pitching drills that her pitching instructor shows her, to the younger girls interested in pitching. It gives her the opportunity to share what shes learned and is helping less experienced players than herself. :)

I must agree. Yes their is bad parts about playing high school, but many times the good things are overlooked. I like playing high school because I get to play with my friends, and i get to make friends that are upperclassman and younger classman. I am not really restricted to just my age or my grade. It creates a connection among the athletes and throughout the school

I can't say enough good things about my daughter's high school experience. She is lucky to play on one of the most successful Central Ohio Teams with a great coaching staff and fantastic group of players and parents. Her high school coach works very hard on a year round softball program, they play in a summer league, they condition and have open gyms as well as play in an indoor league all winter long. Her coach has supported and promoted her to his fullest ability, and she has received many awards including 1st Team All Ohio last year, which was an unbelievable honor. It's going to be an emotional spring as she is a senior, and I am going to miss all the cold and wet spring softball games !! BUT since she has signed with a northern Ohio DI school and will be a freshman in the fall, I am looking forward to the collegiate softball experience, I can only hope it is half as gratifying as her high school experience!
We've had some great times and met wonderful people in both school and summer ball. My daughter has played on very successful summer ball teams for 8 years now, but you can't compare a Regional Championship high school game at OSU Softball field with even your best summer tournament championship game. It's just not the same, different feeling for both player and parent IMO. Nothing better than bringing home the big trophy for your high school and making it into the record books, or having your All-Ohio picture on the wall at school. I just wish everyone could have the experience that my daughter and I have had in High School AND Summer ball.......we've been blessed !! GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE THIS SPRING !!

My DD is also been fortunate to be part of a successful HS program that starts with a coach that will start a Freshman over a Senior if they are better, yes I said starts a Freshman over a Senior but it has had it's share of drama.

Sliderz mentioned something that can never be removed from a players or parents memory, the path of getting to the final 4. My DD's schools shutdown early on gameday to line the streets, schoolbus with police escort, businesses showing support and faculty and administration coming to the games. Parents become one, players become one, team bonding, newspapers, pictures, college fields, trophy presentations, smiles and laughter

We lost the game in Ashland and my DD sat by herself on a bumber of a motorhome and cried for 15 minutes, her reply " I let my school down"
We will always remember the good times of HS ball and even after watching my DD on the motorhome bumper - It is all good ;)

I agree Bigguy, A succesful program starts with the coaching staff being blind to what grade the players are in. The winning Programs play the best players 70% of the time or more and keep the official roster to a minimum yet call up the better J.V players on an "As Needed" basis. Our H.S. Coaches are making the turn toward building a great program starting with the 6th graders and are now spending a lot more money it seems on better uniforms, better batbags, better field maintenance, more access to practice facilities and also promoting fastpitch in our community a little better.
Hooray !! ?:)
The high school memories will stay with them forever.

Hockeybuckeye, it is pretty safe to say your DD's high school team must suck to start the already dead HS vs Travelball crap in this thread.

Would be interesting to know the travel team hockeybucky is associated with , maybe it is one of those that some high school coach's don't REALLY count as a travel team.

Same for Sammy , There are some High School coach's that know where the real competiton is in the summer. Just trying to see to if you or hockeybuckeye are on the average travel teams or one of the elite type programs.

Thanks for hijacking the post. The post was intended to show the positive side of H.S. ball, it didnt even mention travel ball. >:(

I dont think anyones "credentials" have anything to do with the subject. As for Hockey's remark, it sure sounded tongue in cheek to me...

Sure it does, If I am going to take stock into what others opinions are I sure would like to know where they walk in the summer to draw the conclusions that travel ball as they see it ,is far better than High School ball. There are different levels of Travel just as there are different levels of High School programs

The credentials of winning in HS ball is a positive per the topic of this thread, the trip to the final four is a natural high and a positive, winning and sectional, district, regional titles are the ultimate positive of the players hard work and parents dedication is a positive. I'll take the positive credentials and school pride over losing and pointing fingers at coaching, administation.

If passing on knowledge is the issue, than what is better than upperclassmen of a winning program passing on the tradition to underclassmen, positive and credentials.

Travelball was brought into the positive's of HS ball thread, if it was a joke, than I did'nt hear it that way, a subliminal travelball post should'nt of hijacked this thread as it seems to find it's way into every HS post.

I would post my credentials but they are very boring. Best I can figure it would be .500 for life. Counting Travel,HighSchool, and Rec league starting back in 87
