Not trying to start anything just making an observation....I have seen Bouldersdad, Sbfamilies, Lenski, and Chip answer every question posed to them. You are not the only one responding on how you do it.

Agreed how do you teach throwing Mike?

Thanks Howard

Thanks for asking Howie! Since both Lenski and I help coach the same team, we both teach our kids the same way: elbow to target, ball facing away from body, flexed knee at toe touch, throwing elbow slightly above shoulder during hip rotation, release, follow through and extend. I'm not much for technical words, I will leave that up to you and others on this board.

I actually get out and throw with our team, how is YOUR team doing? How does YOUR arm feel these days?

I know you tried to embarrass me but it's all good. You can't embarrass someone who has no shame. I dont need a hug everytime someone tries to call me out. ;&

All kidding aside there are about 40 plus people involved, not just locally that we share ideas concepts and training techniques with and if someone has a question we have the resources to help each other. If we find a better way to teach it or demonstrate it we also share that information. They work the clinics so they get to hear what Finch, Topping, Berg, Bustos, Bastian has to say about the subject as well as their daughters helping to demonstrate at the stations.

Recently we introduced a new hand path device on a Saturday and Sunday morning as a group recommendation we used it prior to doing the hammer drills as the group felt it flowed better. WSU coach Larabee had requested a better way to teach it so we came up with a device to do it and last weekend we demonstrated it at the WSU clinic. We also are looking at their daughters and teams the group works with to see if what we are teaching and how we are teaching it works and is there a better way to do it...it is very interesting to see how it has evolved over the years.

Measurable, observable and then how can we test it to see if the hitter can see it, feel it and fix it.

Mike you are going some place you don't really have to go and we wondered how long it would take...Many that have contributed have willing done so however we saw no substance from you other than you agree, nice post etc so we were wondering what your thoughts actually were on something. No one was trying to embarrass you.....my teams are doing well as I work with three high school teams, four colleges and a core of about 80 kids. My arm is in fairly good shape after a broken shoulder and it being dislocated several years ago however I have managed to teach a few kids and have about 62 kids currently in college we have worked with...and how many have you trained?

I can tell how lenski responds that he knows what is going on and is a teacher as well as a coach so one out of two is not bad so make sure you are taking notes.

I think it is great that you throw with your team, I have found it hard to teach kids something that you can not do yourself. Len is, as you know in my hall of fame for the slide. Anyway, I was thinking we should get a group of coaches together for a skills contest. Somehow we could raise some money and donate it to a charity, just for fun and to help out local kids.

Chip i agree totaly with you, thats why we use our senior students to teach with as examples at the clinics, i was amazed at the difference in the kids after using our trained hitters as visual aids, i will make a wager that the amount of information the younger kids were able to injest and understand doubled when they saw it in actual pratice.

The best instructors have alot of wisdom...Wisdom comes with experience...Experience comes with time...Time makes us old! I guess what I am saying is that alot of those who have made good use of their time and have some miles on them have worn out parts of their bodies but not their minds. If you live long enough or play any sport long enough the knees, arms and shoulders may go...along with alot of other parts...lol. Does that mean you cannot teach? No...That is when you demonstrate by using the best students...Olympians would seem to be qualified enough for me. You dont have to be french to teach someone how to speak it. I think that I along with most of the coaches in my organization would really enjoy a skills challenge like that!

I have a funny feeling that it would go from a skills challenge to a competition...lol. We are coaches and competition is our business. I think we will need to line up the paramedics first...lol. It would be fun just to see all of the competitive juices flowing. More fun to watch how cruel the human body can be to a mind that still thinks it has it...lol.

I dont train. I have a daytime job and a dd that plays. When I get home from work I help my kids with their homework, take them where they need to go, help make sure they are ready for bed, then when I get a chance I get on the OFC. I coach. I teach on the field and not in a garage or a clinic. I have not been doing this as long as you either. So trust me, I contribute when I can, where I can. Do I know everything? Absolutely not. Do I whore myself out to push a product and an agenda? No I do not. Do I need to throw names around to make me feel important? No I do not. Am I stable and confident about myself? Yes I am. What is wrong is trying to learn?

By the way, who in the heck is "we"? You always say "we" when trying to explain something. If you are so nationally renownded, then why are you worrying about little ole' me? Do you have a man crush on me? I should be nothing to you if you were so important. Names please? Who are "we"?

Now "we" must get back to work to make a living.

I think there is some truth to that statement there Sonny.... but I would still be a willing participant. And most definatley it would turn into a hard battled competition..

BTW, I think we are way off the subject here also..

"key stone cops thrown in for good measure" LOL

Great idea! If former coaches count, I'm in (it's been a few years since my daughter graduated high school and I quit coaching her team). A couple of other guys on my men's fastpitch team are still coaching and would be up for it.

We should be ready- we've already been hitting the batting cages for two weeks...

Sounds like fun and we will set something up after high school season, please, let's make sure this is something fun and positive. Maybe anyone who participates or watches throws in a dollar and we donate it to a local kids charity.
