Lets talk about Ohio players only

I have started threads called
1 Top organizations in Ohio
2 ? all the travel around the country
3 Most improved teams
4 Top 16u or U16 (whatever)

Some turned out pretty interesting others went haywire. Did not get the kind of post I thought I would get.

I would just like to see one where I can read about teams around here and not debate and argue about which part of the country is better. I am interested in players around here. When the season starts I will know a little more about the young ladies competing on the field. I sit and watch alot of games between my dd's and don't know a whole lot about them. This has the chance to be a good thread for people to read about Ohio teams all ages. 16U is what I am really interested in but this thread is open to anyone who wants to say something about their teams.:yahoo:

At 16U most of the parents have been through the "My team is great" phase and they are now much more relaxed at the games and yes, they mingle with and sit with parents of the opposing teams. Many of the girls have been teammates at one time or have played against each other for so long that they are all friends.

The 16U parents really don't like to talk about their DD's team, especially on the forum and they definately will not talk about their own DD on the forum. We, parents, will give shout-outs to girls from all over when they deserve it. The 16U parents who have had DD's playing travel since 10U have watched the majority of these girls grow-up and learn their softball skills and life-lessons. For the most part, we are one big happy family.

The main emphasis is getting the girls seen by college coaches. The score of the game is second to getting the girls seen. Now don't get me wrong, the girls want to be and are very competitive and they do want to win every game that they play but they do realize that the real purpose is to get seen.

Come spring, the High School section will be buzzing with talk of individual efforts. Girls from the same travel team will be playing against each other. Girls from different travel teams will be playing together for their High School. It is a great time. This is a good place to learn about the different girls and teams.

So, you really won't get many people on here to talk about their DD's team. Sorry.

That is correct wvanalmsick. At the 16U / 18U level the score really doesn't matter. Exposure is the intent.
The Valley Storm 15U and 18U will be in every game.
Our focus is college exposure.

We have some player videos on our website if someone wants to know more about our players.

Good luck to everyone this season. :)

Wasnt asking for names just wanting a little heads up. Like a little history about the each organization. Maybe even a few predictions on how your team may do. Dont have to get real personal.

When DD was pitching high school, she pitched against many of her travel team mates. It was fun to watch the smiles from them, especially when they got on base.

What really brought out the stares from our non-travel parents was when my wife & I would go over and visit the opposing parents. It was like we were fraternizing with the enemy! Those were some of the best times in softball, and one reason why it's a shame for any kid to pass it up.

16u is a crucial time for the player. It's decision making time; deciding if college ball is on the horizon, or just stick with playing the game at a little less intense level. Either way can be very rewarding, because in the end it's just a love for the sport that matters.

Central Ohio provides a lot of opportunity to see some of the best Ohio has to offer at 16u. Stingrays will be slightly revamped this coming summer with the 16's clustered together better, so the college coaches won't have so much chasing to do. GAPSS is always a good place to see a belly full. After watching teams at those two, you can make your own list of pretty competitive teams

If you want to learn about some of the players and teams that are ganna be good this year look at some of the fall tournament threads of 09 like fall best of the best and the lasers gold fall showcase. I know they may have had a different squad for the fall but I know our team will have the same players it did from the fall to this summer. Look for there scores and who did well. All of those teams that were at those two tournaments were very good. Teams that I saw that were really good was lasers scarlet, classics purple, and Cincy Doom 95 was pretty good for being so young and playing in 18U.

Have to mention the Sundogs if talking 18U. They were a top five finish in 2008 at 16U ASA Nationals and in 2009 was the runner up at 18U ASA's in Las Vegas. They are playing one more year at 18U and have picked up three excellent players from the Laser Blue team.

Well said, My fun is talking to the opposing parents during High School games. There is nothing more priceless then seeing the other girls competing against each other. Play hard and still be friends after the fact

If they can`t do that, then they have missed the point.

I can not take credit for my quote, it is from Payne Stewart. He said."But in the end it's still a game of golf, and if at the end of the day, if you can't shake hands with your opponents and still be friends, then you've missed the point."

At at hitting lesson this week, we had this conversation. It fun to see parents in high school react, when the dd hugs the opposing players before a game and I'm cheering for a kid to hit the ball that we are playing against. We have and make so many friends in this GAME, I couldn't agree more with Punchout and my fellow Lemming, Tim. It is nice to see a kid smile that you have worked with , no matter who she plays for.

Best part of the game, seeing the girls have fun and do well.

Best part about high school ball is seeing the opposing teams players and parents. The kids always stand around and have fun after the game. I've even gone and had a beverage with friends after the game to catch up. The coaches from our team get upset...oh well! That's why they are the puppets for whoever will stick there head you know where!

I like this thread. Wish there was a little more info on some more teams though.
Friendly competition is what its all suppossed to be about. Alot of people forget that.

What my opinion is about a thread for the "best team" or "best player" is that the people posting it is usually tooting their own horn. Not in all cases, but just how i feel about those sort of threads. With my luck I would talk about my team or a certain player; then when someone happens to be watching us play and it just happens to be a terrible day for us (for what ever reason), they would walk saying what is he thinking. My opinion is that the talk is on the field and show it how you play, then you will not have to say it or post it to tell everyone how good you are. As far as talking with other teams and so on; Our team knows a lot of girls from other teams and hang out with one another during tourneys. My DD knows more girls than I can imagine, and she still is texting and talking through the winter months. She has made a lot of friends since she been playing travel ball, and so have I.

I think Finch is right. Coaches don't like to talk up their teams but rather want to have the team reputation built on the field. Probably the best information you can get about which teams would be fun to watch is through Ringor's polls. OFCers who have voted in past polls have done a good job of capturing some of the best teams in Ohio. It's not a perfect, statistically significant poll, but especially for your purposes, it does the job.
