Bob:

Another great tournament, and of course my Valley Extreme team will be back next year! ? ? I have a few recommendations for you to consider next year:

1. Replace the softie bag bases, and provide the double safety bases at 1st base

2. Not sure why the 14U age group had the single elimination games shorten to 75 minutes, if you need to shorten games please do it on Saturday. ? ? Seemed to me that the umpires made the decision when I ask.

3. Please do not play any games on the boy?s high school field at Newbury when there are available softball fields to play on. ? ? Both the Managers (Top Guns) requested that our semi-final game to be moved to one of the two free softball fields and were denied.

Thanks

Reference Greg Bensing's comments. ?Thanks for the kind words and input.

I was covering the 12U finals that went late so I was not at Newbury High School very much on Sunday. ? This is the first I heard the games were shortened to 75 minutes. ?Our rules are 1:20 with no time limit for seim-finals and finals.
If this was done by umpire or umpires, I would appreciate knowing when this started. ?At no time did we OK this. Was this just one game, one field? This will not happen in the future, absent some rain issues.

The baseball field mound did seem higher than normal, we played on this in the past and use other baseball fields. ??We will make better arrangements for next year to lower it or do something. ?It is a good field otherwise.

II agree on the old fashion bases being removed. I have talked with Newbury co-ordinator and one of the things we will is to get them the "hollywood" bases, even if we have to put them in.

Again, thanks, I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to see your team play and noticed when I got the results board that you went 3-1 in single elimination, losing in the semi-finals.

This was an excellent field and you & your team did well.

To cover the other questions

12U final Chain Reaction 8 Scorchers 4

14U Final Top Guns 3 Sundogs 2 (9 Innings)

16U Final Wolfpack 4 Go North Coast 3 (11 innings)

18U Final Valley Sting 7 Thunderbolts-White 1 (Not sure this is exact score.

My thanks to everyone who particpated, we had great weather, great games and a lot of good sportsmanship shown by players and coaches.

The 16U games on Sunday were 75 minutes as well. Somehow the word got out to the umpires to do it, appears it was not just individuals doing it.

Nice tourney, fun time had by all on my team.

Thanks, I am going to check on this. It was not the tournament organizers that changed this and it will not happen in the future.

Just a little note on your bases, I'm now short a player for the next 2 weeks because one of my players got her foot stuck under one of those "throw downs", and now shes in an air cast. This is 2005 not 1970. Hope you are able to get this matter taken care of before next year. My organization has always come to this tournament but this year was a big disappointment, especially when all the home plates and pitchers mounds were like walking along the beach, a little bit of water between games would not have hurt!

What the hell is that???? A player gets hurt and the coach make some very good suggestions and you lay this on him? Saying his is whining is a bit extreme. Hope your player gets well soon coach and GL in the future.

Whining?! You wouldnt call it whining if it was your daughter or one of your players. The bases were dangerous, and so was playing on a baseball field. That mound and rubber sticking out the top of it were an accident waiting to happen, they got lucky it didnt. Why any tournament would use a baseball field for softball is beyond me and to see coaches were denied a request to move their semifinal game from that field is ridiculous. There had to be open fields by then. I am suprised there werent more injuries that weekend.
