In one of the least classy performances ever, Licking Heights beat Harvest Prep 38-2 last night. Heights coaches were calling delayed steals up by 20 runs, running on every passed ball and over throw. In the 2nd inning, LH scored almost 20 runs AFTER two outs and the score was already 15-1 at that point. There were several players who started ignoring the coach at third who was trying to get them to advance on anything possible. The fans in the stands were even shouting for them to stop running.

Good for the girls who realized that stats just aren't that important.

It was quite embarrassing to be a Hornet fan last night.

The coaches this season at Heights are terrible, and I am not one to complain about coaches. Yesterday's game was just one example. Playing Harvest Prep is a no-win situation because it always gets out of hand quickly, but intentionally running up the score and scoring 38 runs is the absolutely worst way to do things. Now, players are fighting with each other about the way the game last night was played. A debate of class and sportsmanship vs padding stats has players arguing in the dugout after a game, and the coaching staff has no control. This season was one of the worst to watch as a fan.

On a side note, does anybody know when the all-league selection meeting is? Thanks, and sorry for venting to you guys. :)

I think you are allowed to vent, though Bear may disagree. The reason I think venting is allowed is because the coaches very publicly displayed their concept of sportsmanship and I think 90% of us would strongly disagree with that concept.

Fairfield Union beat up on Fairfield Christian this season - the score was something like 42-6 :eek: but with that being said.. our 8th grade team was chastised by an opposing teams coach after a game because our coach left bases early and has players swing at pitches for strike outs after being up 15-0 . Coach told our coach that that was degrading to his players and showed no class... so comes down to it you just can't please everyone.... ;&

In what sounds like karma at its finest, I heard the LH team went to Berne Union tonight and was run ruled 11-1 by BU after beating them earlier in the year.

Maybe the coach shouldnt have brought the bad mojo on the team.

Ok, just a few make-up games remain for the League. The standings will not change with these few games.

Here are the final standings for the Mid-State League Cardinal:

1. Liberty Union
2. West Jefferson
3. Fisher Catholic
4. Millersport
5. Berne Union
5. Licking Heights

7. Grandview Heights
8. Harvest Prep

Back before the season started, CCDTeacher and I made some predictions on another forum for the final standings:

So, we both picked some correctly, some not, and close on others. That is why the girls play the game.

Any idea who was all MSL?

Yes, but I swore an oath. I was told of our team's selections and some from other shools but I swore that I wouldn't say a word until the coaches inform the selectees. I believe that the coaches should have the honor of informing the selectees.

Now, if anyone should happen to be told by their DD's or their coach, then please feel free to post their selection. Then we can compile the whole list.

I think that by the end of today, most of the selectees should have been informed.

I agree that the coach should be the one to tell them, but...coming from the season our girls had, we can't even be sure our coach remembered to go to the meeting.

@hornet:

Sadly, if the coach didn't attend the meeting, any all-league honors for your team members were truly dependent upon the kindness of strangers (or in this case, opposing coaches who probably take seriously their desire to see their own players recognized, which puts them in a really awkward position).

Not sending in results to the local and regional media, not showing up for meeting that will decide all-conference honors. I'm just not getting this. (And just to be clear, I have absolutely no information suggesting that your coach did either of these things; I just know that it has happened, with respect to stats/results especially this year, and I don't understand that conduct).

I know of one case this year where a coach did not show up but a player on that team was nominated by the Cardinal Division coaches. The young lady did receive either 1st, 2nd, or Honorable Mention:)

As much as these meetings can turn into a turf war, it shows that the MSL Cardinal coaches reward good achievements from girls from the other teams. That is great news.

@ccdteacher:

Kudos to the Cardinal Division coaches for putting forth a player not their own. But it does put them in an awfully awkward situation and I just can't see why someone from the player's coaching staff couldn't have been there. Then again, maybe no one other than the Head Coach is allowed to represent the school; I admit freely to not knowing that. Or maybe the Head Coach had already spoken with enough other Head Coaches to know that his/her player would be recognized.

As reflected above, I could be way off base in criticizing this coach. But the Momma Bear in me feels so strongly that a coach should support to the full tilt players who have performed well enough for that coach that they are in the ranks of area leaders and deserving of all-conference honors.

Sorry for the hijack.

I agree.

LH had players who qualified for the Dispatch leaders in average, RBIs, and strikeouts and were never sent in. Most game scores were not reported either.

It was the second year in a row that a coach from that school did not show up and the other coaches felt that the player was worthy of being nominated. As an AD, attending these meeting are not optional for our coaches. It is written in their job descriptions.
