I've noticed a terrible change in attitude by umpires this year. I was hoping the K-box being used would help educate the umpires out there but it appears all it's done is make them mad. What's the deal? Why do people want to be in that position, a position of being wrong and feel it is their right to defend themselves for it? Just as in coaching, if you are showing kids how to do something wrong-----doing it for many years doesn't make it right. It simply means you're an expert at being wrong. **** it up and admit the obvious that you were wrong and change.

I witnessed a young umpire at a Rec game last night refuse to overturn a force out call. Runners on 1st & 2nd with 2 outs and a girl hits a 2 hopper to the SS that threw to the 3rd baseman standing on the bag, threw it in plenty of time but the umpire called the runner safe because there was no tag. It was a force out and even after they calmly pointed everything out and he looked around, he became defensive and refused to allow the 3rd out. Can you remember how precious 3 outs are in 10u competition? This umpiring blunder led to 4 more runs and probably another 20+ minutes of game that didn't need to happen. Not a sweet message to send young people and even I was offended he wouldn't right the call.

I'm all for fair play and listening to both sides of a story but come on people. If you want to officiate, at least be fair.

That's the problem.. Daboss

New umpires want to umpire for the money.. be darned about the rules and learning them.

The amount of umpires is soooooo far down in numbers the last two years.. that is it becoming critical actually.

I can't remember getting so many emails in my box for associations looking for umpires than I have the last two years.

Last night for example.. I was doing mens slow pitch. Talking with a player of the game.. telling him about the need for umpires and a good second income and all... then it went off on another field. Players screaming about a call, etc...

The catcher turned to me and said, " That is why I second guess going into umpiring. I don't know how you guys take it".

To which I replied, " You don't have to take it. You control the game on your field."

There is no excuse for an umpire that is not willing to listen to both sides... and if he feels he is not sure on something... confer with the rule book. There is no shame in that as an umpire. You will be respected more for doing the right thing and getting it "rule book right"

But, there seems to be a code somewhere in the rule book ... telling umpires they are "the greatest and be darned the rule book as you know it all".

I have actually stopped caring much about umpires judgement calls. They all balance out in the end. Be consistent is all I am saying with the zone. And DO NOT UMP THE SCORE. I have seen so many umpires start opening the strike zone for a poor pitcher while keeping a tight one for a good pitcher. Been on both sides and it is annoying.

My only real complaint is when they do not know the rules or apply them incorrectly. Or when they spend the whole game trying to call a girl out on the look back rule. We had that a few weeks ago. The field ump did it twice and both times it was over turned by the home umpire. He wanted to call someone in violation like nobodies business. Like he just discovered the rule........and of course he was very young......actually saw him ring someone up on it in a previous game, saying a girl can not round first on a walk if the ball is in the circle.........shamefully wrong.

I LOVED the game last night. Anyone that beats the gators is my favorite team. The kids are fine - the coach is a tool. And being a Buckeye living down here is not always a fun thing!!!

I have this same feeling about Duke in basketball... being a Kentucky fan. ;)

man those comments were blazing. I'm not surprised. The general public's comments were spot on with what I saw --one zone for ASU and another zone for Florida.

No kidding on that strike zone, I cant believe I can see the difference 940 miles away on my TV with a camera angle thats not directly in line with the plate and the mound, and the Umpire Can't..........its all about those darn Umps!!!!!!........:lmao:

dad -- I don't make habit of saying too much about blue, what happened last night was wrong --did you watch the game ? are you saying you can't tell when blue is having an off night or just plain biased for some unknown reason . Camera angle ? really , thats your best argument for the zone ASU got ? you must not have watched.

Not arguing about anything......your right Dan, blue had an off night, hope they get it right tonight so Florida can score 14 runs. I did watch the game, I saw Floridas pitcher throwing meatballs.

she did **** after the 1st , she screwed up AFTER blue got in her head, she shouldn't have let that happen. that was her fault. frankly I'm not impressed with her command, it was more the strike calls that blue gave ASU that was just bad. I get the feeling ASU rolls them again tonight. Dallas is in control.

Yes, and that I think that is the difference between these two teams. Gators pitching doesn't match up at all.

ASU is simply a monster team that can beat you any way it wants to.
