Went and watched a local 14u friendly event this past weekend. 4 teams getting together and playing. Got me out of the house and away from the "honey-do list" for few hours.

Observations:
#1. parents - stay the heck away from the dugout. Sally and Sandy do not need your help, critic, batting instruction or anything else between every inning. Also, coming up to backstop to give your player 15 different swing thoughts and theories during every at bat is ridiculous.

#2 Players - Stay the heck in the dugout and pay attention to the game. You can talk to Mom & Dad on the drive home. You knew it was hot, how about taking more than 1 little bottle of water to the dugout, when the game started ? You're ~13 years old, time to start growing up and take ownership of your game.

#3 if teams spent as much time learning how to play defense, hit cutoffs & run bases as they did with idiotic cheers and dances.....they might have legit shot at winning.

#4 Again Parents stay away from the dugout.

#5 good to see multiple teams with varying skills getting together and playing. sport is still growing and expanding.

#6 Solidified that the classification system (A,B,C & Rec) is a complete joke. All 4 teams were barely into the B level range at best, yet the team with the best record on the day, was on social media proclaiming how great they are. They have an immense amount of work ahead to even begin to approach the skill level that they think they are at.

#7 Limited chirping at the umpire. For once, didn't hear any complaints about strike zone or calls in the field. Pleasant surprise.

#8 Sally, Sandy and all players can carry their own equipment to dugout and to the parking lot.

Have a good week!!!

I don't recall seeing much of that at 14u. You need to find better teams to watch!

it was better than sitting at home, but not by much. And to see with my own eyes that the team that thinks that they are A level, really isn't. sort of funny and sad mixed together.

You've obviously been around the block as I remember your name from when my dd played, just don't remember the org. I'm going to add #9 to your list:

#9...level of commitment both from the player and parent. Instead of going off complaining as a player from lack of play time or parent with the same, are you actually going to a field to practice on your own? Are their distractions preventing going to the field for an hour or two? Instead of complaining and jumping ship (or creating your own team), work at home. Eventually that work will come into fruition.
