stat... great post

Also kids want to play I know of kid's that go off to big time schools only to sit.

The kid's want to go where they can make an impact not chase thier parents dream of saying my kid went D1

I think the people chasing the skills (At least me for my daughters) HAS NOTHING TO DO with Playing D1, but getting opportunities to another group of great colleges with her programs that might not have been an option.

I believe MOST in OHIO have enough common sense to NOT make Softball the priority(Cali has too because most of them will NOT go to college without FP). Our DDs should simply get some BENEFITS that open more doors and opportunities.

ANYONE FOCUSING ON D1 FASTPITCH, like you stated has complete lack of focus for their kids long term.

HOWEVER, if you're going to invest six summers and winters training/playing ball DOESN'T it make sense to train the skills to the highest levels, that just might get your kid INTO a higher BRAND of education that will afford them HIGHER BRAND of JOBS/SALARIES.

Why do all that work for six-eight years and walk away with no more opportunities then if you didn't? TO ME, THAT IS FOOLISH!

At the end of the day it comes down to the dollar. To have those Elite Trainers and coaches will come at a cost, each individual needs to weigh that cost for their own wallet for today and for tomorrow. What are the cost benefits from doing so. What is the wear on the child and family? If it's your only child easy... If it's a second or third still in the house, not so. Was stated above, does DD like to sit? To go to some D-1 school to play and sit on a 25 or more roster??? Nah...

In the end if it's about getting scholarship to go to school, she's better off working on her grades, as that will get her more. That and she can still play if she so chooses, not Mom or Dad.

Any coach we talked to saw her play and discussed that, not what the team did or how many wins or losses they had. For the local girls who want to stay local in the Midwest, just find those teams that play regular Central States showcases and you will be fine. To chase the Golden Ring from Coast to Coast on weekends is only for a few. Sock that money away for school.

The ones that will really win in that realm is the trainers wallets as I am sure they don't come cheap.

Playing at a higher level does not equate to getting a better education. I think there are many fine Universities that would be taken back with that thought. Just because they aren't a D-1 school, does not make their degrees any less valuable in relation to getting a job after the fact, unless you are talking Harvard, Yale or Princeton. Any other University is just that when names come to mind.

No disrespect to the D3 or NAIA schools but I dont believe most of them have what is concidered ELITE players or should I say programs (from the discription on this thread).

And if you are trying place your DD into a HIGHER BRAND of education why not go to one of these schools since they are often great on the education side, and parents would not be chasing this golden goose dream all over the country.

Sure, the assumption is EVERYONE is already shooting for a 30+ on their ACT.. .The POWER of OPPORTUNITY coupled with a highly SKILLED/Trained player then becomes a serious OPPORTUNITY.

Once DD scores 32 on ACT, that doesn't mean she can/will get oportunities to PLAY at Northwestern, ND, Boston College...... She would have also NEEDED to develop some extremely ELITE SKILLS. And yes, being a Student at NU, ND, or BC would be realistic with ACT=32 alone, but if DD wants to play Softball too, that only happens with ELITE Skills as NU, ND, BC Education will ALWAYS be chosen over 100% Schollarship to play softball at small school in Ohio that doesn't have the Education programs and Professional Networking we're looking for in regards to Oldest DD.

However, middle DD, just might be the type of kid where Ohio Small School 100% Schollarship makes the most sense, based on her Athletic potential, acedemic & professional goals.

My 3rd DD, won't have any of this and will probably never see a travel field and simply focus on academics alone. So to each their own.

If the kid and the parents are honest with themselves about the players talent and skill level, then aiming high , or a little bit lower is a personal choice. I promise you this, in the vast majority of cases, if you do not aim high you will find a lower target. Some kids would never be satisfied playing at lower levels. They aim to be the best they can be, both in the class room and the playing field. Riding the pine is always a possibility, no matter where she plays, unless she is playing at a level below her worth.
One other thing, if you think you can not get a good education at a MAC or Big Ten school you are only fooling yourself. She can apply for a job anywhere in these United States, and if her degree is from "The Ohio State University" the name has recognition. Same goes for Kent St or Bowling Green. I have yet to see a competitive kid who plays only for her parents wishes.
Are there better places of higher learning than the Big Ten or the MAC, ofcourse there is. It still comes down to personal choice. Northwestern and Michigan are certainly different types of Big Ten schools. As is Miami of Ohio in the MAC. However any of the conference schools offer worthwhile degrees.

A comment about Team Ohio:

Before a ball was ever thrown or a bat was ever swung, Team Ohio would need to learn very valuable lesson. How to 'LOSE'.

Anyone can win, but if you can't lose, stay together and become stronger - you will never recognize the vision. This is equally - if not more important for the parents. The best training in the world is for not, if the team isn't together.

this sounds like one of our "infamous" coaches meetings;)
