??Ohio High School Rules??

Ok, I have a question on when the girls are eligible to start practicing with their travel teams. I thought it was when the season was over. I've heard someone say that the coach of the Varsity team said the season is over when he/she declares it over. I thought the season was over when they are done playing their last game. I know when you have 5 or more girls from the same high school team you can't have practice before June 1st and no tournament participation after July 31st.
Thank you for input,
Steve

Steve ... someone else can probably answer more accurately than me but my understanding is that head coach technically needs to release. Most coaches just automatically assumed released after last game ... I guess you might never know if a makeup is scheduled or something. I would just have your girls ask their coaches. I know you are in Lake County and I haven't heard any of the coaches in this area not letting the girls go when they are done with season.

4) Non-Interscholastic Participation
4.1) A member of an interscholastic fast pitch softball squad (any student who has played in a scrimmage, preview or regular season/tournament game as a substitute or starter) sponsored by the Board of Education shall not participate in a non-interscholastic program (tryouts, practice or contest) as an individual or as a member of a team in the sport of fast pitch softball during the school?s season (Bylaw 10-3-1).

June 9, 2007 is the absolute latest for coaching/season end. If the coach wants to release earlier, he can.

If the team is not practicing and the awards banquet has been held, then you might want to look at this:

10-3-3 A member of an interscholastic squad sponsored by the Board of Education or other governing board who is dropped or quits during the school?s interscholastic season may participate on a non-interscholastic team squad or, as an individual, in the same sport but is ineligible for further interscholastic competition in that sport for the remainder of the school?s interscholastic season.

If the awards/letters are already given out, you'll have to weigh the option. Only you and your DD can determine whether it is worth it.
