When is Ohio high school gonna learn that they don't own these girls. I had to turn away a player today that would have been a good fit for my team because i already have 4 from her high school. I just don't see the reason for that rule.

Are you on the coaching staff of the high school of the 4 players you mentioned?
Are any of the coaches on your staff a coach from said high school?

If so then you are correct with the 4 player limit.

If not then then the 4 player limit does not apply (during summer ball season).

Not a problem, You can have 4 or 10 players on your team during summer/fall. As long as your not a high school coach..

Not true super pro, there have been many threads on this one. Summer is fine with more than 4, fall is not fine.

OHSAA SPORTS REGULATIONS

Non-Interscholastic Programs
6.1) Definition – A non-interscholastic
program is defined as an organization composed of players
in grades 7-12
either in or outside of school in which the primary purpose is to compete
in
contests no matter whether admission is charged, fees or expenses are collected,
or
whether or not a coach is present, and regardless of whether instruction
is given. Examples
of non-interscholastic programs include but are not
limited to: church, intramural, Y.M.C.A.,
C.Y.O., A.A.U., USAVB, USSF, City
Recreation, All-Star, Club or any non-interscholastic
team or combination of
players involved in team play.
6.2) Member of an Interscholastic (School)
Squad – A student is considered to be a member of
an interscholastic squad
when the student participates in an interscholastic contest in a sport
that
is sponsored by the Board of Education or other governing board and the sport is
one
of the 24 recognized sports as authorized by the Ohio High School
Athletic Association. An
athletic contest involving participants from another
school or any non-interscholastic program
is labeled as a game, meet, match,
preview, scrimmage or other type of competition.

And indoor:

4:22) There is NO LIMIT to the number of softball squad members from the SAME SCHOOL participating during a period of JUNE1 thru JULY 31st. (Scrimmages, tournaments, Tryouts etc...)

4:23) A player can continue after July 31st for National qualifiers, Nationals, and Tryouts only but not after Labor Day, (*meaning no fall ball for 16U if 4 from the same school)

*HOWEVER*: 4.7) This excludes INDOOR tournaments, scrimmages, and practices from November 1 to February 1st.

4:8) Coaches from a school with 4 or more players on the team can only participate in practices 10 DAYS PRIOR AND AFTER the seasons(June1-July31) and INDOOR(November 1- February 1)

4.21) The number of interscholastic softball players from the same school on a non-interscholastic squad is limited to four on the roster of that non-interscholastic squad. A roster is defined as all the members of the entire squad on that non-interscholastic squad.
Note: Graduating seniors who are participating on a non-interscholastic softball squad after their final interscholastic contest of the season in the sport of softball are exempt from this limitation.
4.22) There is no limit on the number of softball squad members from the same school participating on the same squad during the period beginning Friday prior to Memorial Day weekend (May 25, 2012)-July 31, 2012 provided the players have concluded
4.23) A player may continue to play with a non-interscholastic squad in a national qualifying tournament in excess of the four player limitation after July 31 until the squad is eliminated but no later than Labor Day.

It is settled that it is not allowed.......They can not have team with more than 4 doing anything till next Memorial Day - Period.
If they do & found out, those girls are gonna be in eligibility trouble. No one would want that for the school & especially any of the girls....

Also incoming freshman do not count until tryouts, so they would be able to play this fall season together.

Also I remember that someone said that freshman do count if they were on the 8th grade team in the school program (if there was one).

If I recall correctly, freshman only count if the MS team was OHSAA - not if it was a club team.

Also incoming freshman do not count until tryouts, so they would be able to play this fall season together.
It might be splitting hairs, but I don't think tryouts are pertinent. They become an interscholastic player when they participate in an interscholastic contest under OHSAA (MS/HS).

When I read the OHSAA rules for eligibility it always starts saying "A member of..." So in fun and just to keep this thread going here are a few questions.

1. Does "member" mean: current, current/past, future?
2. If it means "current" does that indicate your free to do whatever you like until you are an OFFICAL member of the team? That usually doesn't happen until end of February beginning of March after school tryouts.
3. If it means current or past then I raise this question: If you play as a freshman then don't play agian until your a senoir or not again what happens to those years? Are you still held to the OHSAA rules as a sophmore/Junior or if you stopped playing school ball, until you graduate? How many kids out there are in this situation? coaches better watch out...LOL!
4. I can't believe it would mean future... but you just never know!
