The Ohio Sapphires Organization based in NE OH will be holding tryouts for the 2015 Season for our 12u(2002's) and 13u(2001's) and 14U (2000's) on the following dates at Hudson High School; 2500 Hudson Aurora Rd, Hudson, OH 44236 (the softball fields which are accessed off of Stow road south of the school and east of Baseball fields):

Saturday Aug 16th: 12U from 10am-12pm *please arrive 15 minutes early for paperwork and warm-ups*
13U and 14U from 12:30 -2:30 pm*arrive 15 minutes early paperwork/warm-ups*
*Pitchers and Catchers be prepared to stay afterwards*

Ohio Sapphires Team Information

Team Information:
12u: Will be led by Dean Kontul who managed the 11U Sapphires in 2014 and coached the 16u NEO Attack in 2013. Dean has 9 years of tournament ball coaching experience. Dean will be assisted again by Assistant Coach Brandon Wallace and Asst. Coach Ben Gunlvalsen. The 12U staff has multiple years of Fast Pitch experience at the Tournament Level including Nationals and College Exposure Events as well as Travel Ball experiences. All of the coaches also have coached girls in multiple team sports. The team will be working again with Bob Hoiles this winter on hitting/Kobata work.

The 12u team is returning a solid core group of players yet we will evaluate all positions at tryouts. Players play based on skill and attitude. Please direct any questions about the team to: Dean Kontul at (614) 209-4904 or email: dakmail@yahoo.com


13u/14u: (2001's) this team will be comprised of some older 12s moving up and will welcome a number of new players during upcoming tryouts. While current players will be 13u, the team will be a mixed age team moving forward for the 2015 season. Team Manager will be Bryan Miller who has coached softball for three years including Rec, Travel, and Tournament ball. In addition to coaching softball he coached girl's soccer for 5 years. Bryan has a positive and developmental approach to coaching. The focus will be on hard work, fundamentals, and teamwork. Bryan will be looking for assistant coaches to help with the team for the 2015 season. Dean will also assist with training this team in the winter at a private facility in Bedford Heights.

14U Donaldson (2000's). We are looking for a few more girls with emphasis on a SS and Catcher. This upcoming season will be our 2nd year of 14u. This will be my (Head Coach David Donaldson) 7[SUP]th[/SUP] year of coaching in travel softball (5yrs with Ohio Sapphires and 2yrs with Ohio Ice). Assistant Coaches: Jeff Gregel is joining our staff from the Ohio Power and Dave Haubert returning from last season. We are coming off of a very successful first year at 14u with 2-Championships won and a runner up in a third tournament. We finished the season strong going 5-1 at Nationals. We have improved our team from last season and will be even better this year! We teach fundamental skills including emphasis on the mental part of the game. We do not sacrifice our player development for the “winning at all cost” mentality. Winning comes from preparation. Last year we practiced in the Spano Dome during the winter months and worked with instructor Bob Hoiles the renowned hitting and Kobata defensive instructor who works with several large travel organizations. We expect to do the same again this winter. Our schedule will be challenging to include college showcase tournament(s). Our current team is returning several outstanding young ladies and we have added some more dedicated players who are exceptional athletes.

CarPro, Coach Riddle did an outstanding job while he was with our team and I am grateful to have worked with him the last two years. I believe he is coaching with a new team this year and we wish him the best.

Paris is a great guy. One of the best teaching coaches my daughter ever had. He taught her the basics that subsequent coaches were able to build on.
