Sapphires 16U (2002's preferred; 01s welcome) will be holding 1 more tryouts after which as needed we will look to do private workouts.

Sapphires 18U (2000's)​ will be holding 1 more tryouts after which as needed we will look to do private workouts.




Our tryout will be on Saturday August 19th from 9:30am to 12:00* (private workouts may be requested after until rosters are filled)
Location Solon High School, Solon Ohio
Rainout date for this will be Sunday August 20[SUP]th[/SUP] from 2:30-5 at the same location

We welcome multiple sports athletes. Our goal is to ensure that Softball is a wonderful experience for the girls and something they will always look forward to participating in. Through training, player development and tournament selection, we also want to give our players the best opportunities to compete including College Show Cases and will use every resource available to us and from Current/Former College players to Instructors such as defensive Kobata guru Bob Hoiles to help train/instruct our girls.

This is the staffs 5th year together and will be Dean's 11th year as Fast Pitch Tournament Coach (5th year Sapphires, previous NEO Attack and Hurricanes) This will be Brandon's 5th year as Fast Pitch Tournament Coach with Sapphires, has previous Travel ball and current girls Travel Basketball Coach HS age players.

18 Team is coached by Dave Donaldson 13 yrs of travel ball coaching returning for 8th year with Ohio Sapphires, and prior to that with Ohio ICE. Dave's Assistants is Beth Mather former HS State Champion, Summit Softball Hall of fame inductee. This will be Dave and Beth?s second year working together.

Season info for 2017/2018 16U team

Below is the schedule we played this year. The 16Us a fairly similar schedule next summer with potential changes being one more out of town showcase. In total next summer we will play 7-9 tournaments

In addition we will play to 1-2 tournaments in fall of 17/18 winter. Based on team composition and athlete availability ( as we welcome multi sport athletes ) we will consider a winter league and or attend a college team camp

The Ohio Sapphires 2000's will be moving up to (18u) in 2018. We plan on playing 1-2 fall tournaments or College Camps. The 2018 Summer season will be a mostly showcase schedule, included are our past two years of tournaments:

Thank you to all the young ladies that came out to the Sapphires 16U tryouts yesterday. Coaches will be contacting all players begining today and will complete by end of day Thursday.

We are still looking for one pitcher to join our team and compete for # 1 spot in rotation.

Cathcer needed as well. Team has a catcher, yet she prefers to play infield. So I am looking for one that likes to eat dirt all weekend and loves the position. You know the kid that gives you a dirty look when its 95 degrees out and you suggest she sit out the last 3 innings of the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] pool play game of the day... Yes, that one. If that?s you or your daughter please bring her to our next tryout.

In total we will be looking for 3-5 players based on talent level and offer responses.

2018 16U Sapphires are interested in locating a current or former collegiate level softball player to join the staff to help develop our girls for the next level. While a current/former pitcher is preferred, will consider all players depending on experience and knowledge of the game and ability to effectively translate/communicate their skills and instruction to 16U level. Depending on their availability they would work with girls in fall/winter and join the staff June-July in 2018. Understood that current player would have limited time due to college pre-season workouts in fall/winter, yet would still consider one for summer staff. If you daughter is looking for a team you will be hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable, fair and consistent coach in North East Ohio Fast Pitch. Dave knows the game. Coaches it aggressively and communicates extremely well whether your Kid is softball 24/7 or a multi-sportathlete like mine. My DD has been with Dave for 5 years and loves him as acoach. Over the last 5 years I have seen Dave let great players go for not having a team first attitude. This guy has it all.

He is softball 365 and has passion for the sport. Last year our Solon HS Coach stepped down to the assistant role due to time commitments,and I put Dave's name in the hat after speaking to him. He took it from there and is now returning to Solon HS as the Varsity coach for his second year.
Dave still needs 4-5 young ladies for next year's 17/18Uteam. I encourage you to give him a look if you have not found a team or think you may need a change.

Position needs are: a #1 or #2 pitcher, catcher, corner player, and an a outfielder. Will conduct private workout for anyone who cannot make tryout. I have known Dave for 16 years. My daughter started out with him and it was the best decision we made for her. She learned all the right mechanics off the bat which helped start her on the path to be the player she is today. She played up on his team and they moved up the next year while she still had 2 years of eligibility at her level or she would still be with him. If your daughter is playing 18U, there is no other coach I would have her play for than Dave

Thank you to all of the young ladies who considered joining our team. The 18u Ohio Sapphires have merged our core group with the Cobras Fastpitch core group to become the Sapphire-Cobras Elite. We feel that combining the two groups together will make for a very competitive team.
