DD hit 4 HRs over the past 2 days to bring her HS career total to 34 HRs placing her at 7th on the OHSAA career HR list. She has been walked 22 times this season, including a bases loaded walk last night after she hit 2 consecutive HRs, so she only has 48 at bats and 7 HRs on the season. She needs 6 more HRs to catch Taran Alvelo who sits at #2. Unfortunately this spring has been horrible for rainouts and she will probably end up only playing a grand total of 20 games.
As her HS career winds down, I think about all of the coaches who have played a part in her success in this sport. The nature of travel ball tends to lead to a lot of changes over a 10 year career. She started at 8U with the Lady Lasers Red, Heart of Ohio Nitro, Diamond Dawgs, Ohio XS, Wildcats Fastpitch and finally now, with the Ohio Classics. Many thanks to the coaches of those organizations and especially her HS coach for helping her. In addition she has made many friends from all corners of the state. Believe me we follow the success and careers of her former and current teammates. This is a great sport and a great community and I look forward to the next chapter and finding a way to help others chase their dreams just like so many did for DD.
