I will try to do my best to explain this question by giving a little background first.

I personally witnessed several severe OHSAA breaches in ethics and regulations (with proof) and borderline abuse from the coaching staff. Personally, I investigated and spoke to several professionals who agreed they were against OHSAA rules and regulations. They advised I report to the AD director and principal, which I did but it was swept under the rug. Next I took these severe concerns to the superintendent; again it was swept under the rug. Now we are from a little community where it has already been proven that the good ol' boys club is thriving; I could give examples but would rather not for fear of retaliation.

Anyhow, I feel like OHSAA really needs to know and investigate these issues; however, they do not take calls or emails from parents or students. What can/should I do?

ODE had 22,000 teacher complaints last year. I would say OHSAA gets quite a bit as well. If it is a school district issue keep it in the district. You are better off letting the BOE and Superintendent aware of the issues and if no action fill out the form that fits.

is reporting to police or sheriff appropriate for the nature of the infractions? criminal charges?

if AD and principle are attempting to sweep under the rug.... school board meeting would be my next stop. And potentially local media. Nobody trying to hid infractions wants the full pressure of press and court of public opinion, exposing their transgressions.

In this case I believe we need to know what the infractions are that merit you wanting to report those involved. There is the chance what you believe to be infractions are indeed within guidelines and possibly you don't understand it to be okay.

You've already been advised to keep it within the district and I second that. I simply agree that getting anything done about it would happen more "in house" rather than with the OHSAA.

If you pursue the BOE route you will most certainly be making your claims public. If you have concerns of retaliation, know ahead of time these issues remaining confidential will not happen even if they offer you a meeting behind closed doors. You live in a small community in Ohio. You already know it's impossible for them not to talk. They're probably already talking and it hasn't come back to you yet. lol.

Stick up for your values. It is the American way. Be sure you know what you're talking about first. There is no true anonymous way to report it and get any results regardless what anyone tells you. Small town atmosphere. If you want to hide something, put it in the town square. lol

I emailed OHSAA as a parent about a rule issue once. I got a pretty quick reply, and the rule was fixed for the following season.
