Opinions on Sportsmanship.

We had a situation today where we were beating a team pretty good and we called off the dogs because we don't want to embarrass anyone especially girls that are out there giving their all and we ended up mercy ruling them....well that came back to bite us when it came down to seeding and we were one of three teams with the same record and they went by the run differential. I understand the need for various rules for seeding but in my opinion all this did was promote unsportsmanlike conduct. I know there will be many sides to this argument including this is travel ball not rec ball but it is still supposed to be about fun for the girls and how fun is it when some team is embarrassing another?

Hmmmm... Usually the first tie-breaker is runs against - then runs for... Guess it comes down to just how good you're defense was against their offense.. I don't know if calling off the dogs up by 8 or 9 really makes a difference if you're defense can't hold them down...

The first tie-breaker was head to head then the run differential but as I said we mercied the team we were playing and won a previous game 5-2 and lost a game 8-3 so our defense can do the job but I never want to be involved when you have to embarrass another team in order to ensure you are seeded higher.

I understand what you are saying trust me but when the format is set that way then you have to do what you have to do.
We do head to head, runs allowed, run scored, etc... run differential really doesnt work well in my opinion

Also, thanks for giving me 2 ep's, however ill only bat 9 so I can run up the run delta! Completely kills sportsmanship!

This is why some TDs cap the number of runs scored per game for seeding purposes.

That was another part of the whole situation....we played 9:30am and were told to expect a phonecall at 2pm to tell us exactly when we would play but could play at 5pm so we tell everyone to be back at fields at 3:30 unless you receive a call.....2:30 comes and still no phone call from TD and cant get thru to them so we all show up at 3:30 and find out around 4pm that we don't play til 8am tomorrow.
