Total BS thing to do...But...if you lose a kid to this scenario you wouldn't want them as this would be a sure indicator of trouble a brewin'.....Then as a parent the fact that a member of another team's staff is present should set off the alarm bells....

I saw this over the weekend. I can't recall if he was wearing the hat. He was from one of the top organizations too. Surely he wasn't there to scout.

KO123 - We need more information. Was said coach from a team with your organization, was said coach's team in same age bracket, maybe said coach knew a girl that was not a fit for his/her team but thought she might be a fit for your team, does said coach do privates or school ball and was there to support a player, maybe coach was scouting or poaching. Right now we do not know

It was something we had done and was informed later that it was not good. Our intent was that we had a player move up age level. She is also from our school and we were supporting her and at the same time taking in some quality softball tryouts. We followed her to several tryouts in gear as they were immediately following our tryouts. We saw nothing wrong with it but some folks did.

A coach from another organization approached my husband and another parent at the Sundogs tryouts this weekend. They had brought several of their girls from their organization to the tryout and were asking us to come to their tryout. My husband just walked away. I wish they wouldn't bring girls to tryouts and waste every one's time. Give the girls that truly want to be there more time to be seen.

I didn't see it but I heard it from several people there. There were a few in our parking lot waiting to catch the girls on the way out from what I was told. Pretty sad. I guess we will take it as a compliment!

I say c'mon over and let's talk. Love to BS about ball. It's a compliment in many ways. Who cares. I used to but now with experience I'm more than ok with it. If the players were wanting to be elsewhere, they will or would have been.

Lester-That is how we feel and thats what we did. we talked to coaches only and at no time did we even think about recruiting or approaching a young lady. We saw other coaches in street clothes and talked to them also. It was a social event.

Totally classless. Is this what things have come to? The lack of ethics is astounding. These coaches were actually in the parking lot afterward approaching parents. Unbelievable.

i did this the other weekend. they posted open practices or workouts and not tryout dates on the website. they knew me right of way when i walked up and sat in the bleachers, i wasnt wearing any of my assn game gear, just plain clothes. Us coaches shot breeze and complimented each other programs. I had no intentions of my daughter trying out for the team, but it was nice to see her perform with other peers her age (9/10) besides our team. Plus moving up from 8u to 10u to see the difference was worth it. If someone recruits at your tryouts or practices at your park, yeah, I would say thats a dbag move on the coach.

I think that was nice. So often I think we all take softball, way to seriously, they are just little girls. If I had two daughters playing, they could be on different levels of play and be with different orgs. I just hate the bashing, that is what's crazy. Sometimes social stuff can be misinterpreted, or not, who knows.

Agree - going to watch and even going to help is one thing. Actively recruiting players is another.

I have mixed emotions on this. On one hand I feel this is team xyz tryout. There is no reason for other teams to be there. But on the other hand, the girls came to team xyz tryout. If team xyz wanted them and made an offer they are for you. If team xyz did not want them then who cares who was there to make them an offer. As Woody once said, it's called respect.

Just look where they parked their cars in the lot and set up a hitting station right in front of them. ;)

I personally have no problem with coaches coming to check us out. Now standing in the parking lot recruiting is another story. I had an organizational president contact me about taking one of his players as they had to move up and there was no openings on the team they had to move up to. We can all work together without the deception!!
