PGF in OHIO

Sounds like some confusion out there. PGF Director can you confirm?

My understanding is that the PGF is a seperate tourney from the Lasers Invatational?
Played at Different locations just on the same weekend.

That is what i heard : Lasers will have two divisions, a PGF and a Non PGF. PGF's website already lists the fields for that tournament.

PGF will require registering (just like ASA requires you to have a registration #) but its not that expensive....I read on PGF's website that you don't need PGF insurance to play in a PGF NQ. (that only comes into play if you attend Nationals, not National Qualifiers)

I'm thinking the competition will play PGF - guess we will have to wait and see

I guess thats why it would be nice to hear from the Lasers. The deadline to apply for the Lasers Invitational has passed and we have all applied. How do you choose or determine which division you play? If something like this is going to happen people need details.

Can't help you there, i'm not with the Lasers....you might want to call Jeff Cavanaugh or JP...i don't think either of them troll the OFC on a regular basis

Lasers PGF says the deadline to register is June 4th

Teams will be able to decide whether they want to play in the pgf bracket or not. Jeff is sending an email explaining that to all that applied so far.
Thanks for your patience. More info will be released very soon .

An e-mail went out last night to the coaches of the teams that have registered (my daughter's coach forwarded the e-mail to the team to fill us in)

I received an acceptance email last night from Lasers, but nothing stating anything about the tournament being a PGF qualifier.

I'm on the 10u and 14u list... two different emails based upon age. They basically want to know who wants to play in either the PGF or Lasers event for the 14u, 16u, and 18u's. Different game guarantee due to logistics/format/cost differences.

I will be interested to see who takes the PGF option, since it drops to a 4gg.

Have you made a decision for your 14u team? I want to play strong competition, so I'm interesting in hearing what other teams are doing...

Got the same question from two other coaches. I don't think California is in this year's budget for us but we don't want to be stuck without anyone to play.

since you broke the ice I'll reply :).... my preference is to play in the Laser's event, our families back that... so we are going to stay in the Lasers Invitational. So spread the word FWTW.

Our goal is same as yours, strong teams. Can't help but think that goal has been changed in some way for I'm sure some will jump to PGF, others will stay. The other possibility is new teams that didn't apply for Lasers will go to PGF to match their PGF goals which could even bring in tougher teams. Now, will the Lasers selection committee bring in teams that didn't make the cut due to some jumping to PGF to maintain team counts which could change the landscape of teams selected teams? Not sure, a gamble possibly. Not sure what all that means but it means something ;-).

California is certainly not in our budget. But, I'm interested in seeing what PGF is all about. I have the same dilemma, that I don't want to make the wrong choice and end up playing a small number of teams at Laser Nation.

Les - thanks for posting your decision. It will help me make mine.

We could have held out for an ASA/USA qualifier and joined PGF in the event we had our berth. Just a hind sight look. Love that we made the cut. Hoping for the best.

Sorry for not recognizing your handle, what team are you with?

I'm not a big poster on OFC (although I like to lurk and read everyone's thoughts). I'm Sarah Beaubien, and I'm the coach for Wizards Elite 13u. I played your team in Fostoria at ASA State in 2011. It was a great game, extra innings and I believe we both got bids to ASA/USA. Unless I'm remembering wrong!

I agree on this issue. I'm very happy to make the cut in a quality tournament like this.

If an accepted team chooses to play PGF, how many pool games do they get? JP used the word "bracket" in his post, which suggests all the accepted teams would play in the Lasers pools and then split into separate brackets.

Static 97 North is going Lasers Invitational - ASA. Not in budget to go to California this year. As Les mentioned, We are delighted to be accepted for this tourney. I do believe all the teams there will be top notch so I do not think there should be any worries about lack of talent. The Lasers will get it figured out I am sure. Goodluck to everyone and we look forward to seeing you all there.
