Pitching and Pitchers Discussion Pitcher Glove Size

Actually the first time I ever heard of glove size and weight as a consideration for a pitcher was from Jennie and Doug Finch. They seemed to think it was an important consideration. Jennie recommended an 11.5 inch but nothing bigger than 12 inch for pitcher, 3rd and middle infield and this included college players. Maybe you should give them a call and educate them as to how ridiculous an assertion this is. :lmao:

I wonder why glove manufacturers are using light weight kangaroo leather and synthetics to cut weight from their gloves. Maybe you could become a sports consultant and help them direct their efforts in a less ridiculous direction.

Pitching in a rec league game or two each week, the heavy glove will be fine, but if you are pitching 3 or 4 games in a 6 or 7 game marathon on a hot Sunday in July, the heavier glove will sap energy from your pitcher. You can believe what you want. :)

Then of course you could have your DD do some dumbbell curls and it won't be an issue. :lmao:

You must be the kind of person that thinks they dont have to lift wieghts...Nothing further to say to you on this. All that will come of it is continued bickering back and forth and since we are stating opinions ONLY then it can stop here.

If your dd gets tired from a 12.5" glove then you better make her lift weights. I stand by it not making her tires. What are you buying her a 14"? I could see that getting tiresome I guess but seriously all you people think way too much into this. If your DD is athletic and good enough she wont get tired by a 1" different glove, if so she should condition better.....

It's a fairly common practice for pitchers to use as light of a mitt as possible. The size may actually be irrelevant as long as she can handle it. (talking 11.5-12.5). If you get a 12" Nakona it's going to be significantly in terms of ounces heavier then a Finch model 12.5. At 12u my DD had a heavier type glove she ended up with non pitching arm elbow issues. A dad on the team was a PT, he rehabbed her elbow and suggested a lighter mitt. Now my middle DD pitches she uses her old cheap mitt for pitching and her heavier better made mitt for non pitching defense.

DD's been using a 12.5" Nokona for the last 3 years (the Kangaroo backed and cowhide front) on the mound. She's had no fatigue issues at all. Of course, at the age of 12 she's 5"10 and 165 lbs. She also conditions and lifts light weights twice a week.

I pitched for ten years and I never had a glove over 12.5. Why is she wanting a bigger glove? She needs something that is lightweight that she can quickly get back up from her arm swing for a liner at her face. Even as an outfielder, I didn't use a glove over 12.5.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong but DD pitches with a 13 ok so far , coach has pitchers and catchers play outfield when not doing specialty.

My DD was having soreness issues with her non throwing hand when pitching, she was using a 13.5" glove that we bought when she was playing 1st and outfield. We drove to Dick's and found the lightest glove she could put her hand into, an 11.5" $34 special. Not only did the soreness go away, she now prefers that glove cuz she can move it around faster. And she does have a strength training routine that includes dumbell curls!

DD used an 11.5" Mizuno mostly pitching plus some 1st and 2nd base all through high school and travel ball. Had a couple of tune-ups from the Glove Dr. and now she has a 12" Nokona for senior year, last summer of 18U travel and then college.

My DD got her glove from the glove doctor; Ask the glove doctor about this. I forget namebrand but it is a "superskin" glove; it's lighter than your normal glove and my Dd loves it. It is a little more money than the usual glove too, but worth it. She only uses it for pitching, she has a firstbase glove for that position.

DD pitches and primarily plays infield. She's moved from a 12 to a 12.5? Nokona last year. She?s a senior 14U and only weights 112lbs. She has no problems with her glove. I believe she?s grown accustom to it as well.
