Pitching and Pitchers Discussion Pitching scholarships

I had an interesting conversation with my DD concerning "getting pulled" as a pitcher, and also the crying issue that was discussed in another thread.

First, the crying issue: Her comment was that she felt the emotions between boys and girls (baseball vs girls fastpitch) are the same in a given identical situation - however, the way those emotions are OUTWARDLY EXPRESSED are completely different. Boys are taught that crying is unacceptable, so in lieu of crying, they throw their glove and kick stuff in the dugout. Same emotions, but different expression.

Getting pulled for poor performance: Obviously, no truly competitive player TRIES to fail, and they always want a chance to make it right when things aren't going right. If properly trained and coached, a pitcher WILL KNOW HERSELF if it's not her day - the coach doesn't need to tell her. Sometimes when given the chance, they can "**** it up" and improve their performance, and sometimes they can't. That's what visits to the pitcher's circle are for. Perceptions from the bleachers can be completely different from reality. Without being directly involved in the conversation, it's not really fair to the player or the coach to pass judgement.

Considering every kid is different, every coach is different, and every parent has different expectations, using a cookie-cutter approach will fail every time.
