Player Release question

Anyone that might know the answer, please help. We have a girl on our team that would like to leave and go play on another team that some of her friends play on. I do not want to start uo another post of another team recruiting players, so please only post if you know the answer. I don't agree with what this other team did, but i also do not want a player on my team who wants to play elsewhere. So I am willing to sign a player release form (NSA), however my concern is the team she is going to already has qualified for Nationals and my understanding is when a team qualifies a player cannot be released to a qualified team. I am only thinking about the girl as I want her to be able to go to a team she will play on. Does anybody know the answer?

Here is John De Luca's email. ?ohionsachief347@adelphia.net

You should be able to get the answer from him.

From the NSA By-laws:
Section 10 (a) When a team qualifies for a World Series or the Super World Series the teams roster will be frozen and no player on the qualified team's roster will be eligible to transfer to another qualified team during the current year. The Major?s Players roster will be frozen two (2) weeks prior to the scheduled Major World Series. A team manager may not release a player from a qualified team roster after August 1, of the current year. The Executive Director, Assistant Executive Director or the President of the National Softball Association must approve any exceptions to the above.

(b) In the youth program, no player will be allowed to be added to a qualifying team roster after August 1st of the current playing year.
? ? (1) Any youth player may be released provided that the release has the consent of the player?s manager and parent (s) or guardian.

Is your team qualified yet?. ?If not, then I think she is okay. But I would still see if you can get an answer from John.

Technically yes we have, because we host a tournament and earn a berth that way. However below is from the 2007 Player release form, I can't find one for 2008.

A player may be released if his manager so desires, ONE TIME per year. NOTE: RELEASED PLAYERS
CANNOT RETURN TO THE ORIGINAL TEAM! A player may be released from a qualified or unqualified
team, but can only be picked up by an unqualified team of the same or higher classification.
This form MUST be in the State Office and APPROVED, prior to player participating with the new team.
Permission granted to photocopy this page.
This form is not valid unless it is completely filled out, including signatures and the team sanction numbers.

NOTE: A released player DOES NOT open a spot on the roster. A released player is NOT deleted from roster.
View the 2006 NSA rule book for complete listing of rules that apply to rosters and released players.

It is getting a little confusing for me so I would suggest you try to get in touch with Big John and try to get an answer.

If you release this player, I don't know if your team has a problem. However, the girl (and the other team) may - she could be ineligible to play in the Nationals.

I really don't know that for a fact, but I can't envision any way that your team gets grief out of this situation. Even if she remains as a shadow player on your roster - she will never appear on a line-up card. You have not committed a violation.

Sign the release and send the girl (and her family) on their way. It is up to the other team - and her - to sort out if she remains eligible for Nationals.

By the way, you are perfectly in your rights to not refund any paid fees. This is not a financial hardship situation and the family has made a decision to change. Your team is disadvantaged in having to replace a player, it should not affect the team budget.

Adam,

Did this girl's parent(s) sign a 2008 Official NSA Roster for the 2008 season with your team? If yes, she needs to be released by you to play for another team.

If NO, You do not need to release her and she does not need a release from you to go to another team. She can be picked up by any team and she will be able to play.

No matter what you do, release or not release, It has NO effect on your team what-so-ever.

Since none of us (most of us) like the fact that girls get recruited by other teams and then switch, take the opportunity to put a stop to it. ASA and NSA have some loose rules, but they do give us the ability to take action and stop this madness. Unless there is some sort of hardship or extraordinary circumstances.....don't release her. We should start sending the message within the system that this behaviour is inappropriate and won't be tolerated. This will only make softball better for everyone.

I know I have wrote on here about volleyball before, but we need to alook at them as a model system. They have a ZERO tolernace rule on this. My daughter signed this year to play for her JO volleyball club, a club she has played for for the past 3 years. Then they lost their current facility and moved an hour away. I was told by the governing body that we could not change clubs based on this. It will cost me easily an additional $5oo in gas alone. A little harsh I know, but volleyball just doesn't have the problems softball does....period!

Lakefp, I hear what you are saying, but I honestly do not want a girl on the team that does not want to be on it, it will only create problems throughout the season. I am happy to sign the release, my only concern is about the girl and making sure she will be able to play with th team she is going to and not be ineligible,.

For anyone with interest, I received an email back from Lisa Simpson, what she told me is the roster is frozen, but they can still add. Doesn't make sense to me, its either frozen or it isn't.

I've said it before in another post. Let her go to the other team, but make sure you get all the money due to your team before the release.

Just release her! Why would you want a player on your team that does not want to be there? In most cases there are other factors involved.
It does get sticky when you have 2 players leave and the coach will release one but not the other.

Man bad attitude, 2 players from one team. One is released and the other isn't. What's the difference in thinking there?

As I stated in my first post, I have all intentions on releasing her. This was not a question of whether or not i was going to, this was a question on whether she is eligible to go to a qualified team or not. the young lady deserves to play for someone. and not get caught up in the red tape.
