Tennessee High pitcher Zach Anderson scattered five hits in a complete-game performance as the Vikings defeated Science Hill 3-2 Wednesday in the District 1-AAA baseball tournament at J. Fred Johnson Stadium. It forces a winner-take-all championship game on Thursday. C.J. Hess had an RBI single in the sixth inning for the game-winning run. Jason Vanhoy provided an RBI single in the first inning and Hess took a bases-loaded walk in the second for the Vikings' other runs. Science Hill starting pitcher Garrett Wilkins lasted 3 1/3 innings before giving way to Jack Emling, who suffered the loss despite giving up just one run and three hits over 3 2/3 innings. Kolton Keller went 2-for-3 with a double and single to lead Science Hill, whose runs came off Chance Hall's 6-3 ground out to score Cade McCoy and McCoy's sacrifice fly in the fifth. University High 10, North Greene 1 The Bucs knocked around 15 hits and Carter Pollock allowed just five hits to defeat the Huskies for the District 1-A baseball championship. It came after North Greene defeated University High the previous day to force the extra game. Jakob Hare finished the night 3-for-4 with two RBIs and tournament MVP Cas Blevins was 2-for-3 with a RBI. Softball Abingdon 13, Wise Central 2 The Lady Falcons belted out 14 hits to easily take Wednesday's game against the Warriors. Erin Terry led the way, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Katie Harless was 3-for-4 with three runs scord. Abbey Holmes had two hits and A Linkous and Afton Jessee each drove in two runs. Kayla Thomas scored three runs. Linkous scattered six hits over six innings to earn the win in the circle. Brittany Mullins led Wise Central, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Haley Mullins suffered the loss. Twin Springs 11, J.I. Burton 2 Belle Austin went 4-for-5, including two doubles, with five RBIs. Emaleigh Powers was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Alyssa McCracken also went 3-for-5. Aubrey Powers struck out 10 and gave up just three hits and one walk. Bailey Sturgill was the losing pitcher, giving up four runs on seven hits and five walks over five innings But she and Sarah Mullins each had one hit and scored runs for Burton. Elizabethton 7, Sullivan East 6 Maci West ripped a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Lady Cyclones rallied past the Lady Patriots in the District 1-AA softball losers' bracket final. Lauren Brickey finished 3-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and three runs scored as well as getting the win in the circle. West finished with two hits and two RBIs. Katelyn Loudy had two hits and two RBIs for East. Jana White and Chelsea Sams also had two hits. Sullivan East 7, Happy Valley 5 Kylee Wolfe clocked a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Patriots and end the Warriors’ season. Jana White singled to get things started. Wolfe followed with a no-doubter over the left-center field fence. White had three hits for the Lady Patriots while Chelsea Sams added two, including a double. For Happy Valley, Olivia Absher and Kadie Havner led the way with each getting three hits. Claire Johnson added two hits. Unaka 12, North Greene 5 Tayla Potter went 4-for-4 and knocked in four runs for Unaka, which got two-hit showings from Madison Pierce, Sydney Markland and Sarah Tipton. Pierce added a pair of RBIs. Pitcher Corie Schuettler racked up a dozen strikeouts as the Lady Rangers throttled the only team to hand them a conference loss this year. North Greene 6, University High 5 Jacinth Crawford and Katelynn Rector each went 2-for-3 for the Lady Huskies, who held on after taking a 6-1 lead into the fifth inning. Crawford homered while Rector was good for two doubles. Surrendering five runs (four earned) and amassing nine Ks, Megan Whaley picked up the win with six innings of work. Abby Laws relieved Whaley in the seventh for the save. The Lady Huskies did the bulk of their damage with a four-run third. Kensington Dailey, Ryleigh Owen and Liz Burns collected two hits, a run and an RBI apiece to top University High offensively. Dailey and Owen both doubled. Errors hindered the Bucs’ effort as four of North Greene’s runs were unearned.
